Could have been worse. Mind you saw Vokes goal on the tv this morning - either McNuggs and Hudson at fault for allowing a long ball to get so far unchallenged before being played back to Vokes or a foul on McNuggs was missed - he and Hudson appeared to be appealing for something which wasn't given. Realistically I think our season has gone. It will take a mighty effort with 4 or 5 consecutive wins, at least, to get us close to the top again and I'm not sure we have the legs to do it. Might squeeze into the playoffs but still need a good run to achieve that. Could be time to start building for next year and give game time to Ralls and Harris. The latter could provide the pace we crave down the flanks. On the positive side, of the top clubs only Hull, Birmingham and Boro to play - the last 2 away. Did you see Brum's cabbage patch of a pitch v. Chelsea the other night - and they can't even blame that on rugby!!!
disappointing result for sure, but we're still in contention for the play offs, given birmingham have 2 games in hand on others, lets say we're 2 points from the play offs, thats one win... 11 points away from west ham with 12 games to go is too much of a gap realistically, but who would have said we'd get to wembley and take liverpool to pens? anything can happen in football.
We've had a poor run for sure, but we're still a long way from giving up on 5th or 6th. Last night was a point I didn't think we'd get. There is still a huge amount of football to play!
Agreed Steve and I very much hope I'm wrong. However, management of expectations is a good thing. Better to end the season knowing we've given it a good shot with a good squad base, time to get rid of the under performers in the summer, get in more quality where it is needed and build on the positives for a real strong challenge next season. Too many bad memories of the last 3/4 seasons with high season end expectation dashed on the rocks of failure followed by a bloody miserable summer. But 4 wins in the next 4 games, 3 at home, and the show is back on the road again.
Under normal circumstanses I'd say your not that far off the playoff hunt .... but , 5 points from a possible 21 your last 7 games not only dropped Cardiff out of the top 6 but brought others , amoungst you , looking to break the top 6 . It will take a special effort for this Cardiff team to make the playoffs now , there to tuckered I'm afraid .
Some lacklustre performances to be sure but we can still make a play off spot. Youth and fitness alone is not enough, we need to be able to rest key players. Kenny isn't cutting it as a striker I'm afraid. For all his running and never say die attitude it seems he's helping pave over some cracks in the midfield. He's paid to score and at the moment he isn't. The commentary wasn't brilliant last night but it sounded like we ran out of ideas in the first half and were content to sit back. Second half sounded much better but Brighton had more ideas and forward play. West Ham was pretty much the same story. The guys are tired and not able to perform as well this late in the season. One loan signing is not going to help. A wide man and striker needed with rotation in the midfield. McNugget needs a rest, lots of errors from him lately. Why not bring on the likes of Blake, Vuckic and Conway? Has Blake gone back to his old ways and pissed Malky off? No news on McPhail (hope the guy is recovering). Gestede is injured but I don't think he's the answer alone. Loan players needed but they need to be an improvement of what we already have, is that possible?
Even with a couple of good loans this late , it might take a bit to get them up to speed . Plus , I don't think you'll get anymore loans , you have what your getting IMO , hope I'm wrong for the teams' sake . The team assembled did an amazing job up till the new year & needed good reinforcements from that point . It's almost criminal they never got those quality reinforcements in the transfer window & probably won't get them in the loan window . 12 or 13th place is my guess for Cardiff at seasons end , hope the team can prove me wrong but they seem a bit disheartened & weary of late
Cracker, I agree we won't get the quality required to step straight in and make an impact, but I live in hope
No chance we'll finish that low! Win at Trashton and we could be back in the top 6! Brighton are the only team unbeaten in all the leagues in 2012 and we were within 5 or 6 minutes of turning them over last night. A point down there is a very good point. Miller is missing chances, he wont keep missing. If he wasn't getting the chances I'd say drop him but he just needs a bit of luck/confidence. I'm not trying to set expectations too high just a bit of 'keeping the faith'! Remember Palace getting promoted via the playoffs in Cardiff, with 12 to go they were more concerned with relegation than promotion. I'd rather have a dip in form now than 3 weeks from the end of the season......... We are 100% still in the race and everyone else will be feeling the intensitiy of a long championship season just like we are.
It is more hope than expectation BUT we have a lot of very winnable fixtures left to play, we might just miss out on the playoffs but I'm sure we wont finish 13th!!
Might have been a bit harsh there but if Cardiff don't get 3 points from Bristol & don't get anyone else on loan , I'll stand by 12th . It's not what I want for the Cardiff team , it's what I expect . Have a good one !!
I didn't take it as a wum, I just disagree After Bristol we have 4 home out of 5 games, only Hull are challenging us in the table out of those 4 home games. We obviously want a win at Bristol but it is those 4 home games that will decide whether we're still in playoff contention going into April imo.
Fair play to the 800+ away Bluebirds down Brighton on a week night game ,lad at uni from there spoke to his mate and he said they were amonst the most vocal supporters there this season and a great turn out for a week game .Trust a taff to get the equaliser...................;o(
