Valid comments. I think the style of football will always cast doubts over a teams ability to be champions even when they are winning games. People see a "proper champion side" as winning each and every game 3, 4-0. I think Chelsea's winning of the title comes down more to their ability to not lose games rather than winning outright. This season they have only been beaten 3 times in all competitions. On an aside note, I think the 05 Chelsea team and the Arsenal invincibles are up there with the best sides in PL history. It says a lot about how evenly matched the teams were that that Chelsea team wasn't able to beat an invincible team (in the league). Manure only managed to beat us via a dodge penalty ending our unbeaten run.
Absolutely agree. Both quality sides and some really exciting flair players in there as well like Pires and Robben
Any sane football fan can't discount that during our barren financial runs, it has been difficult for Wenger to challenge for the league. Replace Wenger with Fergie or Maureen and they too wouldn't win the league. There is no suprise that we're getting better with better players and baring our poor start and pants first leg against Monaco, we have looked much better, a Wenger side of the past. So really there was no suprise that Maureen went defensive despite pretty much winning the league. What it does show is he knows how good we are and that his side have a high probability of losing if they played a more open and attacking game. But next season we will see a more open league with Arsenal being one of the favourites. The Maureen years are coming to an end and as highlighted by Mihaelia, if it wasnt for a terrible start from us then things would have been very different. This won't be the case for us next season.
I do think at times Chelsea's style of play is boring but it is effective so fair play to them. They are the most consistent team in the League and barring a miracle will be deserved champions. I don't think the gap between them and us is that large and some part of me always says what if no crippling injuries at the start of the season. At the end of the day we just have to take our good momentum with us till the end of the season and carry it into the new one. Maureen's a top manager, shame he's also a prick
Not sure you can say that for sure. Jose won the Champions League with Inter and Porto, with a fraction of the budget of some of the other teams in that comp. League is different of course but there is no Barca, Real or Bayern to over come either!
I can't remember the Porto team but the Inter Milan team was littered with world class players. During Wengers barren years we lost all our great players and Wenger had to contend with bargain basement.buys and overrated youth players. How many of these vaunted youth players made it? Not many, with most dropping to the lower leagues. Only real player we had was Fabregas and RVP was rarer than Hayles comet. I might give Wenger stick but he had some proper ****e in his teams. We had to have Bentner FFS for ages, just imagine Maureen or Fergie contending with having that pile of pants leading their frontline! But he's gone through all that with all the pressure managing a top European team. Maureen hasn't have to face any of that. Take away the dodgy Russians money and you wouldn't see him for dust. Maureens success comes at a price. But of.course Maureen is a top manager, his record speaks for itself. But I will always give more.respect to managers like Wenger, Klopp and Simeone. They built their teams though hard work and great play. After all football is suppose to be entertaining and not a snooze fest. Like Mayweather v Paquiao, the majority want Pac to win as he's so damn exciting. Like the majority would rather have Wenger winning over Maureen.
