Wenger fuming

Discussion in 'Arsenal' started by Samurai, Feb 17, 2012.

  1. Yes I think we'll leave the matter of Young Aaron at that. I still think there may be more to come from him though ;)

Sadly it seems our best hope from one year to the next is fourth place. An influx of top players irrespective of our burgeoning bank balance would appear to be out of the question. Thus far it has all been talk, hasn't it? When it comes to getting the deal done, we're usually done for, unless of course it's some youngster no one else has considered or no one else is willing to outbid us for. When it comes to big money, we simply bow out. This is the new Arsenal, run by men in suits and one with a moustache.

PS - and we waste such a lot of money too in buying badly and paying these players silly money. But that's probably OK by the egghead CEO's sustainable model.

I think Bonstar has got it spot on from where we can start from. I think most of us have been advocating such changes for quite sometime but Wenger has stalled for too long. End of this season is the time to start. Just imagine the money we would save from doing these things? This would go towards funding new and USEFUL players!!!

More importantly we HAVE TO change our wage structure. We have to stop the rot of leaving players and take a stand. That stand is with RVP. We should offer him the money that other players his stature are getting. Then in the summer, be busy adding to the squad with QUALITY!

  3. Couldn't agree more Mr 20K. Paying RvP should be a club priority along with bringing in the players who will encourage him to put pen to that contract. <ok>

We simply can't afford to lose another world class player, we only have a couple at present! By losing RVP we really would be up $h1ts creek. We don't have any backup central strikers if he goes. Yes we have good forwards like Gervinho and Walcott but are they ready to take over from him? The answer is a big no. We also do not have the midfield to supplement the goals either. Wilshere, Arteta, Ramsey and Song simply do not contribute enough. Losing a classy goal scoring machine like RVP will be a massive setback for us next season and for us to get back to being competitive again.....

yeah lets get that stable door locked ........... oh . the horse has long gone .

  8. We lost a lot of horses and more besides years ago. Most outsiders may wonder why it is we bleat and indeed bleed as we do ( which reminds me that I need to get more razor blades <laugh> ) and while Arsene's record one has to admit is pretty good by almost any measure, it remains that we are no longer the club we were and in our current state, unable to challenge earnestly for any trophy. Still though, there's next year eh? We need to keep RvP and bring on a couple of others though.

Wow- just come back to forum after a very trying time with daughter having back op.

So Wenger has finally lost it with the players? Around 4 years too late?

  10. Yep - it must just have dawned on him that he has been very wrong for so long.

The fact he has publicly criticised his playes after the game, and reportedly slated them behind closed doors must now mean he is a WUM, and is only intent on baiting Arsenal fans. <whistle>

ok time for a bit of fantasy football.

Our squad is far too HUGE as it is. Huge and mediocre.

    personally i would ship out...
(and i'm being conservative here with my price estimates)

    Sebastian Squillaci -£3mill
    Yohann Djourou -£6mill
    Benayou - end of loan
    Chamakh -£7 mill
    Nicholas Bendtner -£7mill
    Andrei Arshavin - £10 mill
    Carlos Vela - £5mill
    Denilson -£5 mill
    Park - £4 mill
    Fabianski - £3mill

and put Abou Diaby on a 'pay as you play' contract.

Total in: £50 million - plus a substancial wage decrease.

    Then i would bring In...

    Matt Hummels -£15 mill
    Karim Benzema -£25 mill
    Mario Goetze -£25 mill
    Cisssoko -£6mill

Total out - £71 - which would make a total expediture of £21 million.
(but would save us at least £10 million a year on wages).

    --------------------Sczezney--------------------
    Sagna-----Hummels------Vermaelen---Cissoko
    --------------Song--------Wilshere--------------
    ------------------Goetze------------------------
    Hazard---------Benzema------------VanPersie

Bench: Arteta, Koscielney, Santos, Walcott, OXO, Gervinho, Almunia.

    yep... slow day at work!

He's soo infuriating I admit. But he's just one of those players I could see us regret selling.
On his day (which are far too rare) he can be unplayable.

I think a problem for arsenal is going to be:
You wont get too much for the players mentioned...you will be selling cos they aint good enough not cos they are good but cant get in a great team.
Also you will be selling so many that it'll cost a firtune to replace them....unless you go for more 'kids'....and even then you had to pay close on 15m for oxo.
I also think there will be an arsenal premium on players as teams will know you are de$perate. Think it will be an interesting window for you this summer.

  15. How do you know that more do?

I'll be at my speculative best here and suggest that only one of them similarly endowed speaks with an American accent<laugh>

I think the suggested selling prices are optimistic.

  17. That's the thing I fear about selling Walcott too.

I recall Don Howe saying that he was surprised Arsenal sold Ray Kennedy. Now I don't have any recollection of Kennedy in an Arsenal shirt but he was northwest-bound and did rather well. Probably scored against us too but for confirmation of that you need to ask someone who has been around a while, someone who may remember Cliff Bastin <laugh>

  18. My one concern is that for Arsenal he is played out of position - a new club might put him through the middle and he could turn out to be a 20 goal a season player...

From my 'Bring in the Germans' thread which advocates replacing Wenger with Jurgen Klopp and making the core of our team German as the German national team is what Arsenal should aspire to be.

    -------------------------------------Szczesny-------------------------------------------

    ---Sagna----------------Mertesacker---------Hummels---------------Vermaelen-----------

    ---Muller-------------------Goetze------------Wilshere-------------Chamberlain-----------

    ---------------------------Van Persie--------Podolski-------------------------------------

Subs: Mannone, Koscielny, Santos, Song, Arteta, Gervinho, Walcott.

There's a title winning squad right there, IMO.

There are worse players than Walcott ? Like who ? Only Squillaci comes to mind. Walcott is dire and has been dire and his flash in the pan games are few and far between. If played up front my opinion could change, I'd like to see him played in his proper position

What drew a smile from what Petit said was that of our midfield being non existent. The only players I would like us to keep would be Szczesny, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Sagna, Wilshere, Rosicky, Santos, OXO and RVP, the rest can all be sold. Only ones of the 2 CBs would play but not together, neither of them are commanding/beast like - so we'd need one of them. I'd keep Rosicky because he has pace with the ball and with better options around him he'd be great for our squad. Santos is staying only because he could turn out to be decent. Mertesacker is far too slow so he's gone. Arteta is basic and while he is vital for us now - it just goes to show how poor we have become.

I'd wield that axe, call me Swingy McSwinger !
