Not leaving as such, just being 'moved upstairs' is what I've heard. Joachim Löw to Arsenal and Heynckes to Germany. Sounds plausible enough, whether it will actually happen is another thing of course. Incidentally, that big interview with Morgan has been published on the website now: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/feature-interview-morgan-schneiderlin-800173.aspx Doesn't sound like the words of someone looking for a move to me.
In the video, Morgan was chilled, happy and excited for the future. Not a man packing his suitcase to leave.
I have a friend whose ex-wife was "chilled, happy and excited for the future", just as she had packed her suitcase and left him
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22299503 A lot of teams might be considering the amount of teams looking at statistical data. He's extended his contract until 2017 though so he must want to stay.
One season could be what is known to stats geeks as an 'anomaly'. They will want to see if he can replicate it, even if they are paying attention to him.
For anyone in this thread that has said Morgan may force a move or "do an Odemwingie", I think this quote from the article speaks volumes about the type of character we are dealing with here:- “But I was the one responsible for the club going down. With the club having paid big money for me, I couldn’t come here for a year and then leave like nothing had happened. I wouldn’t be able to look myself in the mirror".
Schneiderlin is the perfect signing for Arsenal. Would not be at all surprised if the reported interest were true. Whether or not they would match our valuation of him is another matter. And as for the "hes only been good for one year in the PL" argument, this is Arsenal, they sign players on the back of one good season all the time, especially if they are young. The reason being imo that if a player performs brilliantly for one year and the selling club want say £10 mil for him Arsenal can afford that. If they wait and see if he can repeat the level of performance and he does then the Chelseas, Man Citys and Man Utds come along bidding for said player and Arsenal have no chance. If they like the player they will move fast and early to get them. Its a major reason why their transfers over the last few years have been, in the main, disappointing.
If he was available for £10m, I have no doubt he would go, but I don't think we'd even begin to consider an offer less than double that, and that's a big gamble even for a rich club. We're financially secure, and it's been made pretty clear that we're not going to sell any of our key players unless the offer is too good to turn down.
How are people linking him to PSG? Firstly, they can afford just about anyone. Secondly, they already have Matuidi, Verratti, Pastore, Motta, Lucas, Chantome and Beckham!
There's something else to rely on: Arsenal tends not to spend truly massive piles of money, when compared to some of the other top teams, and while they are expected to have a very large transfer budget available this summer, I'd be surprised if they wanted to approach or exceed (depending on how stubborn Cortese was feeling on the day) their transfer record for Morgan.
As long as the club keep progressing I see no reason for Morgan to want to leave. He alluded in his interview that when he signed his new contract the chairman promised new signings and I have no doubt we will be investing in the summer.
Well apologies if anyone has posted this earlier but Morgan is not intending to move and neither is the club intending to sell him. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2013/04/30/3944005/- He's perfectly happy at Saints and I have no doubt is not looking forward to the greater competition he'll face for his place next season, when Saints strengthen substantially.
Thank goodness for that then. I was not looking forward to every other weekend at the Emirates. I would have had to re-mortgage the house for a start just to buy the tickets and it would have taken one hell of a long time to get there with our bus passes.
