Cost me nearly £450 for two returns on the train, Newcastle - Kings Cross, had to get 1st class cos no cattle class left on the first train Sunday morning. Was only £70 dearer anyway.

There is other cheaper trains mate if you are prepared to go down on the Saturday, I couldn't so to get there in time for the match it had to be first train on Sunday morning. All the cheaper seats were taken so I had no choice but to stump up for 1st. The way I looked at it was that the additional £70 for 1st class tickets was cheaper than booking into a hotel. It's a rip off like but when you're over a barrel??? There's nowt cheap about trains mate, as BB says, cheaper to fly if you could have got in quick enough.

The price of train tickets in our country, although they are far cheaper on the western side, are a national disgrace..

Agreed mate. I had to go to London to get a visa when I was going to Angola for work, cost me (the company) £296 return Newcastle to Kings Cross 1st Class, it was £286 cattle class, figure that one out and I even got a free meal both ways in 1st, plus free drink. How do they work the prices out? Absolute rip off but they're always pretty full as well which amazes me.

Train prices in this country are an absolute scandal mate!

Where I live its £31 one way to get in to London. I can get up to St. Andrews return for the golf for £34! No logic at all.

It's going to cost me £40 on the national express. Arriving in London 7am day of the match, leaving 11.30pm after the match. That's from Darlington like. Providing I get a ticket and can't get on any of the Aycliffe branch buses then that's the way I'm going.

Absolutely agree mate, and they **** you on board for refreshments too.

'Not for profit' they say East Coast, before announcing huge profits.

    ****ers.

There's always the driving option, Enterprise do great rates on large motors, if you got a 6 seater for 2 days, plus fuel, you could carry 6 down for less than £300, we did consider this option, but nobody wanted designated driver, and I have to be back for a flight from Newcastle on the Monday at about 9am, spew.
