First half I thought everybody played quite well, apart from Taylor who was shocking, Stephens who misplaced every pass/lost out in every tackle, and Ruben Bover who seemed out of his depth. Special praise goes to Warren who was phenomenal. Wiggins was pretty great too.

Second half, special praise to Green, Solly, Morrisson who were all class, and Pritchard, Williams and Andersen were decent but made a few errors.

Mambo was pretty decent, played far better than Taylor who just wouldn't attack the ball/done a 5 yard clearance every time he got the ball (which always ended up at a Welling players feet).

Sullivan didn't get a touch of the ball as far as I can remember, Elliott was alright, commanded the box fairly well but let one or two balls slip.

Mainly played along the floor, very few hoofs.

Bover was pretty disappointing and anonymous, attempted a few soft tackles and passes, but looked out of his depth.
 
I thought Stephens picked out a few good passes 1st half but dis lose possession on the ball which ought to have cost a goal

Sullivan probably had a better half than Elliott who got rounded by a Welling player at one point in first half

Good to see a lot of passing football which actually found Charlton players not many passes given away or misplaced
 
Martinho and WWOCB, many thanks for the update. Having seen Mambo last pre season reckoned he would be solid this and believe that Sullivan is likely to be our no 1 when the squad numbers are handed out - lets see if Mambo gets no 5. Bover is not yet the finished product he has supposedly doing a lot of strengthening work over the summer and needs to play a few more games in the development squad before he is ready. That the passing is laregely going to the player is the really good news.
 
Thought it was interesting to compare Wagstaff with Green. Unfortunately there was no comparison today. Waggy looked out of sorts. Couldn't beat their full back or deliver a decent cross. Within five minutes of coming on Green had sent in 3 or 4 crosses and really took control. Fantastic strike for his goal aswell.
 
WeWant, I thought Bover looked really good first half, he does look a bit undernourished but there was a lot being channelled through him.

Second half performance different class - whatever we paid for Green, we robbed them - tremendous player.

If we're after a backup striker, Williams ran his socks off, battled for the ball and took his gifted goal well, pretty delicate footwork for a big bloke as well.

IMO, Green MoM, Morrison runner up, Andersen a close third.

So what have I discovered today
1) it's impossible for me to post to not606 and watch the game;
2) the old stand at Welling is very .........old!
3) young girls dancing at football matches is just WRONG!

First half was
Elliot - looked uncertain (5/10)
Wiggins - good going forward (7/10)
Mambo - solid (7/10)
Taylor - needs time to settle (5/10)
Jackson(c) - solid but did not worry their RB much (6/10)
Stephens - mixed display, some very good passes some poor ones (5/10)
Ruben (the Spanish kid) - started off poor then had a very good spell then an average bit (6/10)
Waggly - poor, would not take his defender on, very poor crosses, not one of his best performances (4/10)
Popo - some good one two's and chased all half but not big threat (5/10)
Hayes - did a lot of work and some good touches, needed a more experienced partner (6/10)

Second half
Sullivan - not a lot to do but did a lot of organising of the defence (6/10)
Andersen - looked good, tall and good ball control (7/10)
Morrison - commanding (8/10)
Doherty (c) - very steady and probably helped Morrison to settle (7/10)
Solly - good in attack and defence (7/10)
Davisson - cool with the ball and although playing left wing seemed to roam across left to right (7/10)
Hollands - steady in midfield, some long balls over hit but overall efficient (7/10)
Pritchard - you could see this was a step up for him but kept going (6/10)
Green - threat all half long, good throw, good shot on him and happy to take his man on (8/10 MoM) stroppy however!
Williams - an alternative for us up front, big lad with good ball control (7/10)
Benson - workmanlike performance but that's all it needed to be (7/10)
 
Fair assessment AHLL. I think I noticed a more fluid formation. Despite both halves being 4 - 4 - 2 there was more interchanging, especially across midfield. Green, for example often popped up in the centre of midfield as did Davisson. Benson dropped into midefield a lot, allowing Pritchards to get forward. Most impressive new players were Green and Morrison, and also liked Hollands discipline in midfield.
 
I second the awful cheerleaders. I am no dancing expert but even I could do their routine!

Bover looked a very typical Spanish footballer - technically gifted and eager to pass the ball short distances, I don't think he's ready for first team football in the league, but if he can bulk up a bit then he looks promising

Hayes worked his socks off for little reward, for which Wagstaff must shoulder some of the blame, he was at his ineffective worst, incapable of beating the LB. On Green's display (what a goal btw) he will be first choice every week, he's like BWP in that they both have the excitement factor and are not afraid of shooting from long distance. He and Solly, who himself was very impressive, looked very threatening together down the right.

Williams took his goal well, worth another look at least.

Stephens looked authoritative but as someone has said he gave the ball away in a position which would be punished by League 1 strikers.

Andersen was OK, but we need to see him at CB before we make a decision.
 
Guys lets try and remember this was their first competitive game and was probably used for fitness more than anything. Wagstaff did seem to be poor today, but I think it's unfair to judge on this one game.
