Calm yerself down laddie. The problem is its not just left at that. Constant military operations, constant political interference in the region. It's called making a rod for your own back
How long did it take Europe to come out of their own religious extremism induced dark ages. More than 7 centuries that's for sure, the first hints of emerging began with the rennaisance in the 17th century and only really began to take hold in the 18th century age of enlightenment. How long had extremist Christian rule caused misery for the population before that?
17th century Europe was very different to 10th century Europe. A much bigger difference than that between13th century Middle East and 20th century Middle East. They still stone people and chop limbs off in parts of the region ffs.
The crusades ended in the 1600s jip and Britain was getting its ass kicked in Afghanistan in the early 1800s. I don't know where you are getting your 700 years from
The main crusades finished in 1291 Jacky. There were bits and pieces after that, but nothing that's going to arrest the development of the whole region. Plus Britain may have lost the first Anglo-Afghan, but not the second.
I just find it so frustrating, whether our lads and lassies are over there illegally or not is another topic, but how in hell are they supposed to do their jobs properly with all the red tape and ****e is beyond me. They are ****ed if they do, and ****ed if they don't.
Ok, i've calmed down a bit now, listening to Vivaldi's Concerto for two violins, does wonders for the beel. Thank **** for classical music.
Didn't the Moors occupy large areas of Spain? Personally, I think the whole region is a mess. The oil is it's only saving grace.
The meeting place of 3 continents is always going to be a contested bit of land. Oil was the last thing it needed.
No, it was a religious war, Christians vs Muslims. Us Europeans grew out of that a long time ago, unfortunately some of the more fundamental Muslims still believe in jihad.
Yeah Their final defeat came in 1492 The oil in the Middle East is a pain in the arse. We are dependent on it, so have to play nice with unsavoury regimes like Saudi Arabia. In addition it gives them a lot of money to finance their extremist ideology.
What is there then? Apart from some of the richer Emirates, it's just a wasteland full of unhappy people who are always at each other's throats over religion.
