O'Dea has somehow managed to form a career out of professional football, which he actually doesn't have the required technical or physical skills for, that said I know he's 100% committed and gives everything he has throughout the game. You get what you see with O'Dea, a reasonably tall chap, who is pyhsically weak and who struggles when playing against any opposition with speed and ability. He'll probably move on at the end of his temporary contract at Leeds and probably move to Watford or Burnley and then a few years later he'll drop a level down and eventually return to Ireland.
I wish people would give O'Dea a break. He played ok and like Simon said Ward was the one who nearly cost Ireland the match on many occasions. There were many players who weren't up to power on the day.
I agree shako. He's not a left back but is prepared to try his best there for the team. He's playing next to 'a clearly not back to his best' paddy at centre half and generally with players he is getting to know. I'm not convinced by him yet, but neither do i think he's been a liability. None of our centre backs have convinced anyone so i'm happy for him to be given a decent run to prove himself... given we're unlikely to be getting Cahill in the emergency loan window!
Don't know Simon Ward well enough to comment on his ability, but I have watched O'Dea many many times and he has not got the ability required. The lad has been in the game for some time now and has failed to produce anything of merit. He has been "ditched" by the clubs he has been involved in and the fans of those clubs have nearly all stated that he lacks the required technical & physical ability to develop and his positional sense is not immediate. Very difficult to argue with what others have said and seen for themselves.
the ipswich fans all said that bfb, but then he played left back for them... and they're a rival club - most of our fans have told leicester fans that kasper is a liability, when all last year they were saying he was a premier league keeper. The celtic fans were in general far less damning, several came on here/other boards saying they felt he had talent but hadn't had a fair crack of the whip, and were disappointed he was leaving. Sounds like you've seen more of him than me, so you may be in a better position to judge... and I was as underwhelmed by the signing as anyone, but given our limited options at ch i'm prepared to give him a chance. Paddy has worried me more this season to be honest, we're all hoping its match sharpness and his pace will come back... which sums up our defence relying on... hope more than substance
