Well why don't you just leave people to discuss their opinions. I'm personally very happy with the result and performance today, especially given the opponents and given how bad our defence was previously but that doesn't mean there's no merit in discussing our thoughts on the match after all it's what football forums are all about!! Whilst I agree currently I'm happy just to get the points on the board it's always nice to watch and entertaining game with quality and today certainly wasn't but this probs wasn't helped by the conditions, although we did show defensive quality
Warky my good fellow, there is little point in having the bloody forum if after a win (we didnt even win!) we are all expected to say 'wasn't that good'. I thought we were here to comment and debate.
Far be it from me Yorkie to stop you having a debate even though you are wrong to criticise the team's performance today!
another good thing to come out of today was that MM dropped that useless poser JET,which in turn means there is a space to play somebody else. Anyone doesnt contribute to the team should be dropped and the ball put firmly in the players court, hopefully there will be a positive reaction if not its hat and coat time. Far too much time has been wasted on sub standard players in the hope they might amount to something, shape up or ship out.
JET? Oh you mean Jay Emmanuel-Thomas! He wasn't even in the 18 man squad! I think that Mick is fast losing patience with him and rightly so. Frank Nouble has got a great chance to cement his position in the starting line up ahead of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, he's had enough chances and I think he will be sold in the summer.
Please accept my unreserved apologies old mate for implicating you! Have you got over the McLean saga yet?
It seems that Ipswich town centre is no longer as I remember it at the end of the 90s. I've been back fleetingly over the last decade but by the sounds of it it's really nosedived since I was last there in 2009.
Girls! I disappear to the Potters' board for some fun and when I come back it's handbags at 12 paces! Come on now. Hug and make up.
Chill out guys, I only pointed out that we lacked creativity today and it was a boring match. Am I wrong? I also said that we controlled the midfield with Hyam and N'Daw and with two dangerous wingers they would be a great pairing. N'Daw is ahead of Hyam for me though were we to bring in a playmaker. It was one of the few matches I've actually seen this season so I was just picking up on some points made by others recently about a lack of creativity in the midfield and it was apparent today. We did stop Cardiff playing and that is credit to everyone on the pitch. I am very happy with what's going at PR but it doesn't mean we are the finished article.
Good afternoon all. View from a Cardiff fan. Ipswich were the best defensively organised side we have seen this season. Mainly down to Mick's influence I guess. Apart from a weak header and a shot blazed over the bar we didn't really threaten Loach. With N'Daw's shot and Nouble's effort at the end you could easily have won it. However, in being so defensively strong (maintaining 2 banks of 4 whenever we had the ball) you sacrificed something going forward nand McGoldrick and McLean didn't really have the service to cause us problems. It was a good move to bring Murphy on towards the end when we were trying (unsuccessfully) to get the win. With his pace he exposed the spaces we left at the back and was a real danger as was Nouble at the finish. I've seen him at our place for a couple of other teams and he looked a poor lightweight. However, looks like he has bulked up a bit and is not easily shoved off the ball now. I can see McGoldrick and Murphy being a good front 2 for you. Chops was a disappointment. He looked all over the place (not surprisingly) but was well received by us. He did the Ayatollah on request but I don't know what he thought of the chant "He bets what he wants". But that's football humour for you. Good luck for the rest of the season. I can see you finishing mid table at worst if not higher. Now do us a favour and take some points off our rivals at the top. Cheers
I know this isn't a thread on the aesthetics and characteristics of the Town centre but wanted to throw my two cents in. Having visited sporadically for many years whilst also venturing North of out border into the murky waters of Norwich, I found visiting Ipswich recently is a place of stark contrasts... The not so nice areas are not nice at all! whereas by the University (or College) on the Marina is a beautiful stroll (particularly on a nice day) and wouldn't look out of place on a holiday programme and then the walk back into town there are some nice independent shops, restaurants and some attractive Pubs and a generally pleasant place to be Some of the high street looks very 60's/70's and a bit dated now but the real unpleasant areas are very easily avoided and it would be very easy to take a tourist to Ipswich and make them believe it is an amazingly beautiful place (even though we know it isn't all like that)
If you avoid Norwich Road, St Matthew's Street, Civic Drive and the Civic Centre, Tavern Street and St Margarets Plain you'll be just fine! The whole lot is in desperate need of redevelopment. I was born and raised in Ipswich and I left in 1982 never to return. I love the place but I would never want to move back there as it is a rather dull and boring place to be apart from every other Saturday at 3pm!
Thanks for the summary BluefromBridgend, I don't think in all my time as an Ipswich supporter I've ever heard us described as the best defensively organised team in a season, it's not certainly something we are famous for especially under Jewell!! Which is quite an acheivement and is down to McCarthy undoubtably. I hope once this season is over and we get the points on the board to stay safe for another we start to show abit more quality on the ball and be a bit more expansive, as although defensively we played well, not sure I could put up with too many of those kind of performances!! Very good summary of the game though, again something I've never heard was Murphy and pace in the same sentence, he's no slouch but not exactly speedy although I agree he certainly changed the game. I've never been overly impressed with what I've seen of Nouble either looked alot of raw talent, a bit of a headless chicken really but in his short appearence he looked decent and showed some nice touches!! As for Ipswich town centre, KOPR you do indeed point out the nicest parts, you forget to add to the parks to that which are very nice!! But I'm more cynical about Ipswich than that really, the Marina is nice enough but I've seen much nicer Marinas in actually most places that have them, which doesn't really leave alot apart from St Nicholas street the rest is pretty horrible. I had some old Uni friends visit me when I was living in Ipswich for a night out and was worried what they would think of the place, so I had a plan and it worked. I took them to Isaacs which is very nice got them really drunk there so they couldn't remember the rest of the night and they ended up thinking Ipswich was a really nice place as all they could properly remember was Isaacs!!
