Why not, have you seen what they do in the air on a snowboard? Bloody amazing! A great way to showcase their undoubted talents.
Also worth mentioning Tex, Snowboarding gave the USA four of their nine golds at these Olympics, and made up nearly a third of all their medals in these games (7 out of 23 total). Surprised you'd want to get rid of it. Bit like us asking for Skeleton to be removed or any velodrome event in the summer games.
I'm very disappointed in the USA's performance in the games, and our success in the "slacker games" events only masked the extent of the failures. I suspected we were in trouble when, prior to the games, the USOC touted their sundry social engineering initiatives instead of athletic achievement.
I'd ****ing love to snowboard, I'd have a head start what with me being Hulls bestest skateboarder in the 70's. These days I'd have to be Hulls bestest snowboarder 'in' their 70's Edit: I'm only 53, but I couldn't resist...
Not really, they’re legit events. I think the Slopestyle and the racing are good and represent enough of snowboarding as a whole whereas half-pipe and air are ****ing stupid and - as Tex says - exactly like having skateboarding in the summer games.
Because the skills demonstrated - aesthetics and speed -are already covered in the slopestyle and racing. Why do you need other events showing the same skills? They’re not the only stupid events. I have never understood backstroke or butterfly swimming, for example. Why have slower and more difficult ways to cover the same distance as freestyle? We don’t have a backwards running race or one where they have to run in a completely illogical certain type of way.
Not too late Kemps I’m in my 50’s and snowboard. I was 44 when I started, but you could easily start now (...are you listening Askew !? ) Bloody amazing feeling, particularly as an ex skateboarder (even a bit very good one) You only need 4 lessons at Xscape and that’s it...your unleashed! I even do a little bit of slopestyle stuff on boxes and rails and jumping off kickers (only the baby ones...and very badly!) I’m going away with some mates in a couple of weeks for our annual week on the slopes in Austria. The feeling when you’re on you board looking down a slope with nothing to see but blue sky and snowy peaks is worth a few bumps while you learn ...do it! (I’ll give you and Askew a lift to your lessons if you want!)
If the skateboarding in 2020 follows the street league skateboarding scoring system, it'd be pretty fun to watch And because it's fun to watch, if there was 1 thing per sport, the olympics would end in 2 days It's a 4 year gap, it's the way things are these days, more entertainment Just sit back and enjoy whichever event you wish to view And watching a guy get big air on a snowboard is like totally rad man Its sicccccckkkkkk
Slope is about consistency and variety between the types of jumps, rails etc But air is the one big set of tricks and judged differently Plus the tricks are harder Honestly i don't really know much about snowboarding but it looks cool as **** to watch Excuse the pun ;D
2022 Winter Olympics? I've been skiing for 30 or so years now. Got fairly good at it. I'm pleased skiing has made a come back as a few years ago the slopes were 50/50 with boarders and skiers. Whichever resort we've been to over the last 4-5 years there's been more skiers probably 60/40. Both very different and transitioning from one to the other is very different. That makes it all the more incredible that female slalom skier won gold on skis and gold on the board.
I think the Norwegian approach is interesting that they only enter events that they think is cheap / easy enough for the general public to do. I assume tea-traying is one of them. For the top medal winner to not even enter Bobsleigh cos they think it’s too expensive is pretty mental.
