I agree SAF hasn't set a great example, but neither did Pardew in the 4th official's ear trying to get the decision he wanted, and nor does any other manager who all do the same thing week in week out. Until the FA start punishing all managers for this kind of thing the problem will persist. There's a fine line between letting managers talk to the ref and letting them undermine the ref, and the FA is currently on the wrong side of that line imo.
Absolutely spot on Swarbs. Another way of looking at it is that Drogba must not have been interfering with play ( or active if you like ) when he scored the winner a couple of seasons ago at Old Trafford even though he was clearly a couple of yards offside !!!
Let's not forget Pardew and his entire staff surrounded the official when they wanted Valencia sent off.
Every manager behaves like Fergie although I do think he went a bit far v Newcastle. Every manager apart from the gentleman that is Chrissy Hughton
Might get to win at something then eh, little child. Get back on your magic bus pal. With the other rems.
I'm eating cheese and drinking port.. Whilst chuckling at everyone beeling about all this.. The scouse board is hilarious.. Going to venture on to the Geordie board see if they are all as outraged as the scousers.. Good Crimbo ruff?? Worn in ya cowboy boots??
Oh yeah, they're lovely and broken in now. Proper gay. I think it's fair to say the geordies will have taken this a bit better than the scousers!
Majority of us have taken it as Ferguson has been on the drink and Pardew has wound him up. The scousers have took comments about us..worse than we have taken it haha..have a look at RAWK.
There is nothing more enjoyable than watching the scousers playing the self pitying victims, is there? Foaming at the mouth, whinging ..hahaha. Made my holidays. honestly I was expecting it and I was slightly disappointed that the scousers took some time before getting going and then their mods had to close their thread I am a bit perplexed though that they seem so involved and so exercised when as a smaller club in mid table they should be more concerned with staying in the premiership. They have now even given up on trying to win that first premiership title. So we are not even their rivals Hats off to SAF though. He knows how to play the media. For all we know he could have had a sensible discussion with Dean and waved his arms for show. Unlikely but I wouldn't put it past him to create a drama...
Another instance of the Chavs luckily and undeservingly winning a title they got found out the following year as they did this year after fluking the CL win.
I can't argue with that. The FA could easily sort this out by making a simple directive which prohibits the managers approaching the on-field match officials during the game and can only do so, with the officials' permission in their changing room after the game. None of the pair of managers come out of this looking good. Pardew shouldn't have made that comment about Ferguson and Ferguson shouldn't have made his comments. None of this would have happened if Robson were still manager; they brought the best out of each other and none of this distateful nonsense would have occured. This has brought attention to an otherwise great match for all the wrong reasons which is a shame as this would have been one of the better advertisements for the sport.
You're right there what a fantastic game of football that is being talked about for all the wrong reasons, media influence for you.
The media sets the agenda. And it is interesting that in the last three matches whatever ferguson said or did has been latched on in fine detail for days and weeks. More fools fans of other clubs to get exercised over those
Classic by Mick Quinn on talkShite this morning. Outraged by Fergie's wee comment he said it was a disgraceful thing to say and if Newcastle are a wee club what does that make Sunderland and Boro.
Enormous amount of repsect for Ferguson and also Wenger, even though at times they step over the line. Its managers that are confrontational when they've achived nowt themselves - allardyce, Dalglish etcc. How can they critice the ref for being poor when they are poor too, its their lack of management skills that are costing their team more.
EXCLUSIVE: Ferguson: I was talking about Newcastle's lack of trophies, not the Toon Army, when I made the 'wee club' comment By BOB CASS PUBLISHED: 22:45, 5 January 2013 | UPDATED: 22:45, 5 January 2013 Comments (0) Share Sir Alex Ferguson claims he has received backing from many Toon Army members following his controversial comment that Newcastle United is a 'wee club in the North East'. The Manchester United manager revealed that, among many emails he received about the issue from fans of the Tyneside club, several welcomed what he said. 'Among the criticism there were also messages from people who feel they have been let down by the club and that it has not matched their own ambitions for success,' he said. Support: Sir Alex Ferguson made comments which angered a number of Newcastle fans when he described the team as a 'wee club in the North East' Ferguson has sought to exclude Newcastle supporters from his observations last week, insisting that they were directed only at the club's lack of success over the years - a failure compounded by their 2-0 defeat at Championship side Brighton in the third round of the FA Cup. The Scot, who celebrated his 71st birthday on New Year's Eve, clashed with Alan Pardew after the Newcastle manager commented that Ferguson had been fortunate to escape FA censure following his confrontation with Mike Dean and his assistant Jake Colin, after the referee reversed a decision to disallow a Newcastle goal during the fiery 4-3 battle at Old Trafford on Boxing Day. The FA chose to take no action because Dean did not include the incidents in his referee's report on the game. Among the best: Ferguson said he was not directing his comments at the Newcastle faithful, but at the hierarchy of the club Woe: Shola Ameobi (centre) was sent off as Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Brighton in the FA Cup The United manager sparked a storm of anger in Newcastle when he hit back at Pardew, saying: 'The problem for me and Manchester United is that the profile of the club is huge. I'm the manager of the biggest club in the world. I'm not like Newcastle, a wee club in the North-East.' Now Ferguson wants to heal any possible rift with Newcastle fans. 'It was never my intention to belittle Newcastle fans,' he said. 'I want to clear up any misunderstanding that may have arisen over what I said. I have nothing but the highest regard for Newcastle fans and I always have had. They are up there with the best supporters in the game. Their passion, commitment and fervour have never wavered, even though they have had little to celebrate. 'They have turned up in numbers to get behind their team wherever and whenever the games have been played. When I take a team to St James' Park, I have stressed to the players that not only have they got to beat the opposition on the field, just as important is coping with the atmosphere created by the fans. Saviour: Robin van Persie came off the bench to rescue Manchester United 'Sadly, results have not matched their loyalty. If Newcastle's achievements had matched the support of the people who pay to watch them play, the club would be among the game's giants. It's tragic that they haven't been able to win a league title for over eighty years.' It was United's barnstorming finish to the 1995-96 season, when they won nine out of their last 11 matches, that denied Newcastle the league title, after Kevin Keegan's team was 12 points clear at the end of February. The following season they again finished as runners-up. Ferguson said: 'The whole country would like to see a Newcastle team that matched the one in the Keegan era when they took us to the wire.'
