I don't go along with the calling any club bad names. As Theo says all clubs have fans who let their name be dragged through the mud, but they have far more genuine ones who must be embarrassed by the behaviour of the minority. Yes their are some who seem to attract a hardcore of trouble makers, but I have felt more intimidation by some from further north than Luton, but I prefer to think about some very interesting supporters that I have met from all over the country.

It is so long now since we had to play them often that I see little point in carrying on something that younger people were not even around to remember. I don't really want my grandchildren to be taught to 'hate' things. 'Dislike' something by all means, but that is different in my book.
 
I'm sorry but having had to put up with being pelted with coins in the away end with all their most pleasant supporters positioned right next to us I have absolutely no qualms in wishing them the worst. Yes other teams have bad supporters but it is the intense hatred they have towards us which takes the biscuit.

As for their game vs Millwall, their clubs talk a good game about sorting out their problem supporters but realistically haven't really done that much about it and there is an inevitability about the violence that will be on display next month. Would be good if they could prove everyone's view of them wrong. I somehow doubt it will happen but hey, retro is in so let's have some retro-violence.

Every L*t*n fan I've spoken to in the last three years has said the same thing: that they are a Championship/League One club in terms of fanbase, playing budget and player quality, temporarily trapped in the bottleneck that is the Conference due to off pitch issues. I don't agree with all of that, but won't argue against it.

But if that's what they genuinely believe, a Football League club beating a disinterested top division side isn't all that big a deal. A good result, but something that happens in both cup competitions every season.

I studied for two years in that cesspit of a town and I now live in an area where there are a few of them around and abouts. I can honestly say that although I am acquainted with one or two none of them are 'friends' or anything like and when we do talk we NEVER discuss football. There are two exceptions to the rule and they are both Scottish who moved to the area as adults 20-30 years ago and adopted them as they are their local team (all very noble but utterly misguided)... actually Wycombe Wanderers are nearer but they were not in the league at the time, so they don't count - but they will none the less be deported once Scotland votes for independence and I am Lord Protector of Herts and Bucks!

I dare say Millwall will be rearranging their furniture again. We can but hope...<whistle>

I can assure you that what I feel towards L**town is far from being fun. I am also far from being a sad person and I consider your comment to be pretty offensive. If your personal experience is that they are nowhere near the likes of others, then I say you have been damn lucky. Others on here echo my experience of coin throwing, spitting, homophobic and filthy abuse (and that is only from the Lady H*tters) is what I have experienced in over 20 years of attending matches at the Kennel before I said enough is enough and refused to go any more. My Dad felt very strongly and did not go after the 30s derbies.

I do however agree with you and find the references to "scum" very tiresome.....every club's supporters seem to use this term very unoriginally.

"Vermin", I find, does the job even better.......
 
Whilst personally I am nearer the Vic-rij end of the spectrum than the Theo end, I find myself wondering why we are even sparing a moment's thought about them.

Would we swap 4th in the Champ/out of the cup for still in the cup/playing pub football?

I'm at the Vic end of the spectrum when it comes to them. Too many old wounds will make me be anything different. Even though I know loads of them and even 1 or 2 of some of their old hooligans - I will never wish anything but the worst on them.
I am pleased they hold this record - it just highlights they are non-league. Getting Millwall will be an excuse for weeks of trolls larging it up on every football MB about getting revenge for 1985, but in reality all that will suffer will be the Asian community living near the Kennel...

Ok, i do find this a bit difficult to say..but....

if my dad had liked football, i'd have probably been a L*t*n supporter. my dad lived there with his favourite aunt during the war and he loved the place, and even when they knocked her ramshackle house with the loo in the garden and stuffed her in a modern flat that she tried to make home, he still loved the place coz she was there. So...having such a family soft spot for it, it's always been difficult to 'hate' them. I can't say i'm thrilled that they won, but...

And..having said that, the fact that everytime anyone on the radio or tv talks about them they always say 'non-league' first...which is kind of a buzz ;)

I did not say anyone was sad...I said I find it sad that distinctions are not made between good and bad fans. I have heard some foul things in the Upper Rous...racist, homophobic, scatological. Nor do I see how it is offensive to say that my personal experience is different from yours. If you believe all the fans of any one club are 'vermin' then there is some difference in the way we see the world. That does not mean I underestimate the unpleasant experiences you have suffered with Luton fans or I have experienced elsewhere.

2. Fair enough some of you hating Luton. You have your reasons. But to the 'person' who said that he hopes Millwall rearrange their furniture, I suggest you have a rethink.
I was there that night when that happened. My mate was a Millwall fan and he offered me a spare ticket as his wife had to work. I have never been so **** scared in all my life. To see innocent kids being hit by missiles and crying in sheer terror was not a pleasant sight.
I hope to God the poster who did post that, is never in that situation, or possibly has his own children in that situation.
 
This is an interesting subject for me.

I am a snob. I really dislike the general image of footballers - desperate lack in grace, totally devoid of class and perfect examples of over indulgence and greed. Along with this, I detest the image associated with your "typical" football fan. Loud, brash, alcohol swigging, foul-mouthed cretin who, judging by their actions within a football stadium, would be more offended at a linesman running too slowly than discovering their own mother was the victim of a horrific murder.

BUT, like every good football fan, I would rather have a dinner party with Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Genghis Kahn and Max Clifford, consisting of grilled poo with a wee jus than step foot in that dump known as "Luton".

I don't come from a family of hard-line, devout Watford FC followers. I haven't had this deep running hatred instilled in me from a young age. I wasn't brain-washed by my beer drinking lout of a father (who actually doesn't like football, but instead spends his time listening to music and drinking fine red wine). I just really dislike Luton including everything and everyone associated with it.

When going on a business trip, and waiting for a colleague to pick me up in the van on his way, I refused to get in - and in fact got a train - when he turned up in Ford Luton van. What a horrible van.

I am a peace loving kind of guy, however, and at this time of David v Goliath, am able to cast my hatred aside.

Maestro - Just to add some context to the events of that night that you might not be aware of. Firstly whilst you had a ticket, many others did not and paid cash on the night and this attracted most of those involved in those scenes. In addition we played them in the previous round with the replay night game at The Kennel a week or so before. Again in that game the then chairmen of them, decided to allow pay on the night and it ended up with loads of them paying to get in with Watford supporters and the net result result when they scored was a huge punch up with kids also having to witness what you describe. This was the same chairman that later sold their ground to the council, trousered the coin and then quit the club.
So whilst I would not say they deserved all they got from Millwall, they are certainly no innocent party and did make their own contribution that night. If you add this to their behaviour in our town and ground a few years later and their treatment of York fans and players just a few years ago, you are not likely to receive a sympathetic ear on this MB. You should thank yourselves lucky that you did lose, otherwise Norwich could have looked a very different place after their knuckle draggers finished with it.

Any post that doesn't abuse the team, our supporters or cast covetousgalances at our best players so close to the transfer window is welcome as far as I am concerned.

I suspect that the comment abot rearranging furniture was tongue in cheek. As others have said, whilst sympathising with anyone caught up in the predicament you were in 1985 it doesn't change the fact that we have had some pretty torrid times with LTFC. When your family stand gets attacked 10 minutes before a cup tie is due to kick off and their manager turns round after the game to say it had a positive affect on the players because they were able to relax and gather their thoughts you tend to bear a grudge.
 
I can understand the bearing of a grudge.
What I can't understand is the mindless violence and the wishing of it on others.

I have to say, at Norwich, there as never been a problem with Millwall fans, as far as I can remember.

Leeds = yes, Leicester = yes, Man ure = yes, Liverpool = yes, there was even a one off incident with Watford back in 1984
 
I'm a bit shallow but essentially I don't like anyone who does not like me - easy rule to follow and prevents a lot of hassle. Hence I don't like Andy Murray because he does not like the English and I don't like L*t*n because they don't like Watford

They have done well in the cup - two good victories in the last two rounds but do I applaud them or care - no. The only silver lining- -or should that be glint of silver - is that it is piling up fixtures in the Conference and hopefully will mean they even miss the play offs. I don't hate them but I don't think I hate anyone or anything - life is too short for that. I do hope though we never play them again as to my view games against them were not friendly rivalry but something a lot more sinister
