Thanks for confirming CB... I thought I had it right, it was such a good game of football, and for the league we were in we did gather some fine quality players...

We ended up with a very good 2nd tier team. so my point remains, once the manager gets them in, it's down to whether the quality is there or not, and we ended quite a bit if it back then....

Generally in the top tier years that followed, we mainly struggled to finish off good attacking play and I remember going home after every match saying the same old thing... We need a striker.

    Some things never change...

Haven't seen our away performances seen our home ones under JR and know without a doubt if it had been CP in charge V Huddersfield second half and Burnley you'd of been screaming for his head.
We may stay up and may well of stayed up under CP as we had all those games in hand.
Credit where credits due we won two away games of course the other factor is the old back room staff whom were slated incessantly for wearing shorts and being useless on here are still there.
Maybe they deserve some credit as they seemed to take a lot of the blame beforehand.
If we stay up then we access and move on to next season if not JR goes simple.
Players are mercenary they will always try to impress the new boss and forget about the old one so the
    togetherness bit was there before.
Remember the goal celebrations under CP ... QPR at home for example.
It's a bit rich saying some hope JR fails after revelling when CP lost and silence when he won.
The reverse now seems to be the case.

I totally agree Mike and you're fully entitled to state your view and both Dyer and Matthew are still at the club advising Jose Riga so they must have some worth otherwise would've been dispensed with. I was watching Late KO and Chris Powell was on there, he made a joke about managers being under threat when new takeovers come in. One interesting fact was how badly clubs run by fans are doing, they languish in the lower leagues. Although I was against the sacking of CP I think the new board should be allowed to get on with it without the interference of the CAST such as when it demands meetings. I do think the board should follow procedures when it comes to managerial appointments though. CP did look well and expect him to be back managing again next season.

I just don't get the hypocrisy of it .. How amazing we are under Riga where's the evidence that we are sooo much better it's the emperors new clothes.
Pritchard comes on and rather than being negative it's a master stroke .. Load of BS .
We have to move on but I can't read mythical rubbish and let it pass.
    It's all about opinions.
As for Dyer he was lambasted more than CP on here by some yet still there ... Odd if he's so useless .

How about giving Poyet some of the credit for all those clean sheets? He was only introduced by CP because after Stephens was sold there was no-one else, yet he's getting better and better, and seems to thrive on playing 2 games a week. And I promise you he hasn't just suddenly become a good player because of CP or JR.

But the emperor is wearing clothes, Mike. He is wearing three wins, two draws and five clean sheets. Not bad attire, eh?

You seem to be attacking JR, yet all he has done is come in and do a terrific job under difficult circumstances. CP worked under difficult circumstances, granted, but he ended up wading through treacle, and he needed to go for his own good and for the good of the club.

Pritchard came on and did well against Huddersfield, but he has not been a regular in the side, so I don't see this as a sensible argument.

Dyer is no tactical genius and I very much doubt he has been instrumental in our good form, but he is employed by the club and knows the players, so why wouldn't JR want him around? All hands to the pump, so to speak.

Powell has gone. He will forge a good career in the game and we can all watch his progress with a keen eye.

Mike isn't attacking JR he is merely pointing out that some people on here had made their mind up about Powell and failed to post about the manager when we played well or won, now the same people only post about the manager after a win and not when when we lose or play badly. I supported Powell, I'll support Riga unless he gives me reason not to, I supported Parkinson, I'm not so sure about the three before that, although Les Reed is a great bloke and Charlton through and through he should never have been manager. It's not that people don't wish Riga well or even think he's doing alright it's just the inconsistency that's frustrating.

My feeling too. Miketyson was'nt attacking Jose, just pointing out that there is a fair level of doublé standardsbetween those who screamed blue murder after we lost 3-0 at Leicester, but were silent or absent after the Burnley and Derby games.

It should be possible to admire the job that Jose has done, while admitting that he had a poor game against Derby, setting the team up all wrong, but credit to him for putting it right second half, although it was too late by then. Poyet has made a difference too, not only the way he protects the back 4, but also the calm way he helps us retain possession.

I support JR obviously want him to do well now he is the manager of my club but agree with Leaburns Legs completely .
He has done OK so far Spose he will be judged at the end of the season.
If we stay up job done and then hopefully he gets a contract I certainly don't want a phase of umpteen manages in the space of a few months .
Poyet has been brilliant and better than Parker at his age without a doubt.
Re Pritchard you won't find a more honest pro good squad player I'd love him to still be with us next season the boo boys of which there are many at the valley have destroyed his confidence as they did with Francis who ain't done bad since.

"Charlton fans in improved mood due to better results - SHOCKER" <doh>

The previous manager left the Club absolutely on its arse after Bramall Lane. An abysmal performance on national TV against lower league opposition. One of the worst , if not the worst performance from a Charlton side since Curbs left. Riga has come in and seemingly turned things round. I like the way he has given a limited chance to the chaff - Green, Spoongebob, and the Headless Chicken - and then bombed them all out of the side. The sign of a good manager, IMO. Under Powell's tenure these same three players were recalled every other week.

I would go so far as to say that these three players will never start another game for Charlton.

One final thought - the guys who keep ramming it down our throats what a great manager Chris "6 wins" Powell was....wait and see what league club he gets next.

Happy to wager it is at a lower level & size than the one he just left with his tail between his legs.

    The Powell Myth needs exploding.

I made my mind up after following Powell's sides around the country for 3 seasons and watching ugly and unsuccessful football, plus bad substitutions and ****e, schoolboy "Don Howe eat- your- heart- out" tactics <steam>

I think Pritchard will be gone in the Summer along with Evina, Green, Cook, Gower, Hughes, Wood, Cork, Azeez, Osborne, Jordan, Holland, Feely. We will also send back Koc, Thuram, Sordell, Petrucci.

I would like to see contracts given to Hamer, Morisson, Dervite, Poyet, Fox, AA, Obika.

If we are still in the Championship I would like Roland to bring in a number of decent signings to see if we can push for promotion.

    This is certainly possible.

If this was the only thing happening, I think Mike T might not react in the way he is doing.

Silent after Burnley, with gloating article after Forest. Silent after Derby, another one after Leeds.

Not many Charlton fans have actually seen the Forest and Leeds matches. From the commentary, Leeds sounded even worse than Forest, who looked more like relegation fodder than mid table.
