I raise you San Lorenzo of Argentina. I raise you Argentina fans at any WC in fact. Noisy for longest
No need for megaphones, lethal flares or smokebombs, just decent Englsh folk behaving sensibly. Went to see the Rolling Stones that night. Saturdays were good then for a13 year old.
It must be something like the RL, where you win the league, then there's another set of games leading to a Grand Final. A chance to give it a whirl.
Playing centre forward for Preston that day and scoring their second goal was Alex Dawson who my husband played with in trials for Hull City Boys. Alex played for HCB and then on to England Schoolboys, Man United(after the Munich disaster) and Preston. My husband failed to make the HCB team and the highest level he reached was Sasolburg FC in South Africa where I first saw him play.
Or, Barrel Chested Alex Dawson as we was referred to in newspaper reports. Quite a few barrel chested forwards back in the day.
Must have been a tinpot competition with clubs like West Ham and Preston in the final. No interest for neutrals and around the world. Still 100,000 there though.
The win puts Hull Pirates into the Final Four Play off weekend in Coventry next week, where they could add the National Champions Trophy to the Cabinet.
Yes I went to the game last night . It was pretty convincing win and the scoreline reflected the way the game went . Nice little bit of Argy bargy at the end of the 1st period to boot !
I’ve been before, when they were called something else (Stingrays?) Anyway, it was a good night out and there was some argy bargy there too
Having experienced a 2006 regular season league match in Buenos Aires between Independiente and River Plate, confusingly played at Racing's stadium as Independiente's was about to be pulled down and rebuilt - its literally across the car park from Racing's ground - anyway I digress - it was a 0-0 draw and not a great game either, but the atmosphere from probably an hour beforehand till well after was mentally loud and literally 'jumping' - I thought the stadium would collapse as the whole cantilever sections were bouncing up and down, the concrete that is! Unbelievable and to be recommended to anyone who has the opportunity.
Mrs BMB - I have extended family who were very active in SA football in the 60's and 70's to a high level in Vereeniging - which having looked it up on the map is close to Sasolburg - they possibly played against your husband!
He played for Sasolburg in 1967-1968 and Vereeniging was a team he played against as well as nearby Vanderbijlpark. These 3 towns form the so called Vaal Triangle. The Sasolburg home ground had floodlights(only team in the league to have them) and matches were often played mid week in the evening. I was married and went with my previous husband to the evening games but didn't go to other Saturday afternoon matches. The team had a 'star' player(Lance Kun) who was in the Hungarian reserve team when Hungary had their great team back in the 50's. Smoking, whisky, age and women had taken their toll but his class was evident. My husband lived with him in a company house throughout his 2 year stay in Sasolburg.
Yep before I snuff it deffo intend to see a game or two there. What drugs are they taking to maintain those energy levels?!? No need for Steve Jordan out there.
Humberside ****ehawks. They've had nearly as many names as Hull Sharks/Gateshead Thunder trading as Hull FC.
