SMC statement after crowd trouble mars KCOM Stadium's Easter weekend

Hull FC, KR, Hull City and Sheffield United fans were involved in trouble

The company that runs the KCOM Stadium says it is working with police to find the people involved in violence that marred two games over the Easter weekend.

Hull FC and Hull KR fans clashed in the East Stand on Good Friday as bottles were thrown during the derby clash between the two bitter rivals.

Just three days later, Hull City and Sheffield United supporters were pictured brawling in the North Stand at Easter Monday's Championship game.

The two violent incidents, the first of which also involved a smoke bomb being thrown onto the pitch, came less than 72 hours apart.

Videos taken at the derby showed missiles being thrown by both sections of supporters with Hull Kingston Rovers the first to act after the game, threatening "strong action against any supporter identified" and saying they would not hesitate to ban anyone involved.

On Monday, Sheffield United fans who bought tickets among the home supporters clashed with City fans when celebrating the visiting team's first goal.

Stewards and police weighed in to break up the two sets of supporters, several of whom were pictured throwing fists at each other.

A large group had to be escorted by police into the away end, having bought tickets to sit among the City fans - the visitors sold out their allocation for what was one of their biggest games of the season as they hunted a return to the Premier League.

The Football Association confirmed they would investigate the brawl that broke out with a spokesman telling the Sun it "will be liaising with the clubs and Humberside Police" to investigate what happened.

The incidents have forced the SMC, who run the stadium shared by the football and rugby league club, to say they will review their current ticketing arrangements.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the SMC said: "SMC are reviewing the weekend’s incidents with Humberside Police and will take appropriate action with the individuals involved.

"SMC will also consider current arrangements in light of recent crowd behaviour."

More than 20,000 people attended the Good Friday derby where FC and KR fans squared off, before just over 14,000 watched the Tigers go down to a heavy defeat to their opponents from South Yorkshire.

The brawls after the Good Friday derby brought widespread condemnation from both sets of fans.

Hull FC fan Andrew Robbins urged fellow supporters of both clubs to accept the blame equally.

He said: “Let's not start labelling all Rovers fans as trouble causers. They have idiots just like every club and let's face it we've had our fair share of morons following us in the past.

“We should be working together to identify and ban these people from both clubs to protect this family game.”

Lee Greaves believes the misbehaving fans should receive harsh punishment

He said: “Total disgrace. They ain't doing this in my name nor any other good fans name. Not Rovers fans in my eyes, just cowards who think they are clever which they are not.

“Idiots or morons, call 'em what you like. I like a beer but it never crossed my mind to throw anything. They should receive a ban for life from every sporting event across the world.”

Hull KR releases statement attacking 'unacceptable' fans responsible for Hull FC derby trouble

The club has condemned those involved in bottle-throwing and launching smoke bombs

Hull KR fans reportedly seen fighting among themselves during the match with Hull FC at the KCOM Stadium on Good Friday, 2019
Hull KR has condemned the behaviour of fans causing trouble at the Hull FC game and has vowed to find those responsible.
There had been a number of reports on social media of KR fans causing trouble during and after their team’s 56-12 loss to Hull FC at the KCOM Stadium on Good Friday.

Those at the stadium described a smoke bomb being thrown while there are reports a boy was injured after being hit by a bottle.

The trouble led to a Hull KR fan to hit out at her own set of supporters after the match, branding those who took part as "disgusting".

Now, Hull KR has responded with a strongly-worded statement.

A spokesman said: "Hull Kingston Rovers condemn the actions of a number of supporters in Friday’s derby against Hull FC.

“Unacceptable acts such as bottle and flares thrown from the North Stand at the KCOM Stadium will not be tolerated in any instance.

“The club has been working with Hull FC and Humberside Police across the weekend to identify any individual responsible for bringing our name into disrepute.”

The game also saw reports of Hull FC fans taking part in throwing bottles, with one video showing missiles raining down on Hull KR fans in the KCOM stadium.

Following the match, there was also allegedly a mass brawl at the Tiger's Lair on Anlaby Road and further trouble around the stadium afterwards.

One Hull KR fan, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke out and admitted she felt shamed by the violence she witnessed.

She said: “Fans started throwing bottles in the referee’s direction. One bottle missed (Hull KR player) Danny Addy by centimetres!

“Then behind us a couple of Rovers fans were fighting with each other. We left early but as we were getting onto the concourse there were two more Rovers fans squaring up to one another.

“We got outside the stadium and there were two kids crying their eyes out being consoled by adults and stewards were with them too. It was awful.

Hull KR is urging anyone with information to come forward to help identify those involved.

The spokesman said: “If you have any information regarding individuals, you can contact the club anonymously. Help us identify the culprits.

“With your assistance, the fans, we were able to deal with a ‘supporter’ who was caught throwing bottles at March’s away game at Castleford Tigers. Your information, no matter how big or small, will be of massive benefit to us.

"We will take strong action against any supporter identified, and will have no hesitation in issuing bans to anybody involved. The minority have once again let the club down with their actions.

“Hull Kingston Rovers are a family club and those involved in Friday’s events are not welcome, and do not belong at our club.”

Fans have reacted on Facebook to the story with many saying it is an idiot minority who are dragging the true Hull KR and FC fans down.

Sam Strong said: “You can't tarnish every Rovers fan with the same paint brush it's the minority that spoil it for everyone else. But I agree the ones causing the trouble need to be caught, identified banned and fined.”

Hull FC fan Andrew Robbins has urged fellow supporters of both clubs to accept the blame equally.

“We should be working together to identify and ban these people from both clubs to protect this family game.”

Karen Hill has vowed never to go to a rugby league derby game again.

She said: “I go to City every home game and have never seen such horrid behaviour. Cannot believe we are all from the same town.

“Derbies bring out the worse in these so called fans, and fans watching this childish behaviour instead of the game. Children next to me crying.....ill never go again!”

Hull KR fan Rob Black was moved to apologise for the behaviour of his fellow supporters.

He said: “Firstly I would like to apologise to FC from all the good, honest decent KR supporters, regardless of what some others believe we do have plenty who turn up week in week out to support our club in the right dignified manner.

“We don’t want these type of supporters associated with our great club.”

The FAs first question should be "Ehab you run this club so well and have such a great ticketing operation how did you manage to sell home end tickets to these pigs."

True. And the next should be why the Plod escorted Sheffield fans who were breaching ground regulations into already full away areas causing a health and safety issue, and in itself breaching ground regulations, instead of chucking them out as they should have done. Our police used to issue stern warnings to City fans about getting tickets for away areas and the consewuences if they did and how they would ensure they got banning orders if it led to disorder. Of course Humberside Plod are only ever interested in dishing out to City fans and give the fans of other clubs a free ride.

    Any problems with those points.

Just saw something about a fan of TWS from Cornwall who couldn't get a ticket in the away end who wrote to Bristol City to ask if it was OK for him and his young kids, looked less than 8 or years old and brother in law to go in the family area. They were told yes and tickets were duly aid for and sent. They got seated but half an hour before kick off a steward noticed one of the kids was wearing Leeds United socks. Ejected, no taking round to the already full away section a la KCOM and no refunds. Bristol City cancelled 400 tickets Leeds fans had got in home ends after checking data bases. Wish our club was more like that.

...to the day that this rugby-crazy hotbed decamped on mass for the twin towers while the Tigers secured their place in the 3rd division (for one more season at least) by beating Southend at BP thanks to a goal from King Keith?

They were the best of times, they were the worst of times.

I remember going to that match. And the guy at the turnstile let me in for free. I think he was impressed I hadn't gone to the rugby.

Of the 6 of us who went to that match at BP together and on the issue afterwards 3 have died and one lives abroad, and Dave Dewberry disappeared to heaven knows where.

In those days I worked at Ideal Standard and so many were going to the RL final that the firm closed on the Friday and kept just a skeleton crew on of which I was one to keep the place ticking over. It could also have been the first time the May Day ( Labour Day) Bank Holiday was recognised too and nothing to do with the rugby. At the time it was a better story for the eggchasers in the pub to say the factory shut down for the rugby.
It seemed at the time that virtually everyone at the firm was on some trip to Wembley, I wasn't, I was going to watch City v Southend.
Only a couple of years later the early finish for 'Wembley week end' was dropped altogether because of a lack of interest and switched to the Monday, rugby fever had all but died off and only a handful were still going to either Fc or HKR on a regular basis. I was still going to City.
1980 wasn't an easy time to be an Hull City supporter.
My in-laws all jumped on the RL bandwagon around that time too and like my workmates, two years later none of them were going to games on a regular basis. Just one game a season, the pub trip to Wembley, no matter who was in the final.
