Xavi pulls off the Italian-American look pretty well:

one is still young while the other is in his peak .. and i think Azpilicueta was cheaper too
yet heard he was preferred over Nacho back at Osasuna .. or at least there was few difference between both

He was in line to be Spains next LB until Jordi Alba progressed so well (and naturally playing at one of the big two means he gets priority treatement!), so that's a good enough quality of signing for me!

How? Seeing as one is a left back and the other is a right back. Also going by ESPN, they played the same amount of games when they were at Osasuna. So that suggests that they were both starting.

Wow he avoids using his right foot like the plague. Not familiar with him at all to be honest, so that's the first thing I notice about his game. He seems to lose so much momentum in some of those plays by adjusting to his left foot (even for a simple touch.)

    Safety first I guess. <whistle>

Yes he is very left footed but it is a sweet left foot. He also does not mess around in defending. He will make quick decisions to clear the danger which is what Arsenal need.

Slightly off and on topic, Santi and Nacho have been called up by Spain.

    Fandabidozi.

I bet the other teams in the league will be crapping themselves now eh ?

After watching that , i bet Fergie and Mancini will have to adjust their WHOLE team .

    Hilarious.

All them promises of spending big , on real quality .

All them " if he buys some real quality players in the window i will support him ."

And THIS is what he gives you back for your unerring support .

    ONE leftback.

I've always been curious, how old are you?

Oh and calm down, not many things are worth being so pissed off about.

Spain is an incredibly diverse country and its ethnic mix is reflected in that. You have Catalan, Basque and Moorish influences in amongst a traditional 'spanish' population.

I don't think people realise quite how separate some parts of Spain can seem to other parts. It's a country that has ethnic divides just beneath the surface. The Basque region has often campaigned (and used extreme measures, ETA) for a separatist agenda and don't forget that their was a civil war in the last century.

Many people believe that the Spanish Royal family may not continue after the current King and the country will become a Republic again, with separately governed regions. This is especially topical at the moment in Spain given that their economy is ****ed and many regions believe that they would be better off with independent control over their finances and governance.

Azpilicueta played 99 games for Ossasuna between 2007-2010, and 27 apps for the B team the previous season. Then 47 apps for Marseille over 2 years, then joins Chelsea and has made 16 apps so far.

Monreal played 127 games for Ossasuna from 2006-2011, and 36 apps for the B team the previous season. Then 45 apps for Malaga over 2 years, then joins Arsenal.

They have made a similar amount of appearances each season to each other whilst in the same team and since then. They have had fairly similar careers, quite interesting how the two started at the same club and have progressed together.

Both played at youth level for Spain but only Monreal has made the step up to Senior Internaional level with 9 apps. He was seen as Spains next LB until Jordi Alba's emergence. Azpiliceuta has however been named in the squad for Spains friendly against Uraguay and so is in line for his first cap.

It'll be interesting to see if there careers continue to mimic each other over the rest of there careers!

who told you Fabio is better? <doh> PLS we are not deluded like some chelsea fans who live in a world of thier own
PLS read my comments in our section before embarrassing yourself here ... go and read how i concluded that we need to sell Fabio as he is not good enough to be our LB

I don't rate Alexander Büttner either just to know

Xavi always reminds me of the actor in The Devils advocate, forget his name. (Not Reeves, the other one)
