Poldi has a very good goalscoring record considering the minutes he plays and from the left too. Other than that his overall game is pretty ****.
To be fair to Podolski he has scored 28 goals in 69 games in two seasons, playing out wide rather than as a central striker. Not a bad return of goals. Particularly as he is used mainly as a sub and whenhe starts takenoff at 70 minutes. For a bit part, squad player he has actually scored a lot of goals.
A maybe option was needed for this thread. Oh well. Think he'll be a good signing for us. Not world class you don't need to be World Class to score goals with this Arsenal midfield (at least on paper you don't)
Because other than score goals, when Podolski has played centrally for us he is annonymous for most of the game. And for our system to work we need more from our CF.
Because other than finishing Podolski is quite poor upfront, at least for us. He was far worse than Sanogo was yesterday. He played for 13 minutes yet didn't bust a gut or try to get in behind. He's really best utilized as a super sub against teams that park the bus and you can't penetrate so he can hammer shots in not in stretched end to end games.
Where will Sanogo play then In seriousness, think he's better out wide and Sanchez is more dangerous through the middle where he can get on the ball a lot more.
Yeah I understand that. But in a way by playing Welbeck you'll get what you're lacking from Podolski, but also lose what you had - goals, which has to be the no.1 priority. Maybe it isn't, I don't know. Maybe brought in to hold the ball up and bring the likes of Ramsey into the frame.
If Sanchez ends up playing through the middle then Welbeck will end up sitting on the bench as he doesnt compare to our wide players. Welbeck has been bought as cover for the CF position, not the wide areas. It's great he has the versatility to cover there as well if needed but he will primarily be to fill in centrally.
Yes, he is incredibly frustrating to watch, he doesnt add enough to our overall game, doesnt give us enough height, strength, hold up play etc... He is a fantastic finisher but we need more than just goals from a CF. If he goes missing for big chunks of the game it leaves others to pick up the slack. Playing out wide he does much better for us than when he plays down the middle.
Despite usually being an optimist, if we sign welbeck I will have some serious concerns about our transfer policy and Wengers state of mind. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong...but **** me....Welbeck It's not like we don't already have the likes of podolski and campbell who can't get a game
Not wumming, but who? Walcott, he's out injured. Who else do you have as a wide option? Cazorla, Ozil, Ox can do a job there but are better centrally.
Walcott is back after the international break, in fact he should've resumed training by now. As for the OX, he is v.good on the wings too.
But he should be up and running now . I'd pen him back for our Carling Cup game against Southampton, it's just meant to be as well now.
I guess the plus side would be that we would have the possibility Welbeck Sanchez - Ozil/Cazorla - Ox Which is pure pace with a bit of magic in the middle, but still....****ing Welbeck ****ing 16 million ****ing 16 million for Welbeck Football's gone mad
Rumours are that Man Utd won't sanction the Welbeck deal until they have got Falcao. Man Utd have a one hour extension, Arsenal have two hours
Walcott is just about to return to the team and is one of the best wide players in the league, definitely starts ahead of Welbeck out wide. Sanchez i think will play predominantly as a wide player and is head and shoulders above Welbeck. Podolski as a wide man is an effective option, he gives us goals and assists from that position but rarely plays full games for us, more an impact sub out wide. Oxocube is really starting to hit the level we hoped he would. He goes past his man easily and has real pace and drive to his game. He will hardly ever get an opportunity centrally and will at least for the moment have to carve out a position on the wings. He has everything to be a very good wide player and is starting to show it. Campbell has impressed on loan spells in france, spain and greece, scoring against Utd last season in the CL and having a fantastic WC. I think lots of us have been waiting years to see him get his chance in the first team and i think he will prove a very solid wide option. Then on top of those players we have both Ozil and Cazorla. Both cannot play through the middle as the number ten and due to there quality it is likely space will be made in the team regularly so they get game time, pushing one of them out wide. Both have shown they are very capable of playing this position despite both having the odd weakness for this position (Ozil defending and Cazorlas pace). We also have a very competitive midfield with Rosicky, Wilshere and Ramsey all able to play wide. Of particular interest is Wilshere who Wenger will try to give lots of game time this season. That may mean being pushed out to the wing at times. I think Welbeckwill find it very difficult to compete for awide position. He has been brought in to cover the CF spot and that is where he will get game time.
It was originally the end of August but it's not really an injury you can put a true timescale on.I would prefer his injury to be fully cured rather than rushing him back.
