I think that Saints could pull off a win against Arsenal. Can't see any of our rivals getting anything (I'm excluding Newcastle and Fulham because they are not in the relegation race IMO).
The thing that gives me hope is that most teams pull something out the hat against the big four at least once so we are due one in a way
But who's going to want to join a team that look certain for relegation? Redknapp has really got his work cut out to convince the quality players needed to join.
That's what I have been saying...all our rivals seem to get a surprising win...we are better than they are and we are overdue one. However, it will be our form against those at the bottom that will clinch it.
Again, without wanting to cause trouble, but you are better than who exactly? At the half way point, the league table has well and truly taken shape and shows you are only better than QPR and Reading. I can't remember too many upsets this season where relegation battlers have beaten the top sides?
Now Trix you not wanting to cause trouble! You are probably right though. Wigan winning at Spurs and Norwich beating Arsenal and Man U are the only big upsets I can recall.
On this occasion at least, I'm genuinely not. There just seems to be an abundance of comments about your superiority over other sides and I can't see what you are basing it on? Long term, if you can hold the squad together and build then yes, you are potentially very, very good. But in the here and now, the table doesn't lie and you have a lot of improving to do if you are going to escape. You could argue that you have a better squad than both Wigan and Villa, but both have experience of escaping relegation battles which possibly gives them an edge. Yeah with regards to upsets, those are the only ones that spring to mind and I don't think you can really call Norwich relegation battlers. So Wigan winning against spurs (who will probably finish 5th or 6th is probably the only one.
QPR drew with Everton and Chelsea also, so with villa winning away at Liverpool ,Wigan winning away at spurs, and Norwich beating arsenal and Man U also Swansea beat arsenal.....so tricky anyone can take points of the top teams so stop fishing.
And West Ham beating Chelsea! I think my feeling that every other team beats a top side except us may be influenced by my idea of a big side. I expect our rivals may have thought we'd lose to Newcastle, whereas Newcastle have turned out not to be unbeatable. And sides like Norwich and West Ham have done better than I was prepared for. Just shows that perceptions can be deceptive. However, I don't think I'm deceiving myself when I think we are getting a hold on this league and will do better than 4-5 teams. I expect to lose tomorrow and will stay in relegation zone, but it will be ok as long as our GD isn't damaged too much.
I don't understand why trixter finds it surprising that we think Saints are good...if we don't, who will.
Wigan winning away at Spurs is the only case of a true relegation battler beating and top side. Draws don't really count as upsets. Villa winning at Liverpool was a surprise, but Liverpool are a mid table side now days. When Swansea beat Arsenal, they were level on points and Arsenal were in a bit of a mess. Norwich are a mid table side and their wins go in the same category as our win against Chelsea. Memorable home wins rather than big upsets.
