While were at it lads is firpos run at lb helping our defence? As seems his recent run coincides with our good form attacking and defensively.
Think championship is definitely his level. He’s very good at this level. Not sure he’ll be up to pl if we get there
All Piroe's good work is when he's not leading the line. That of course is just my opinion but I'm not seeing him challenging the centre backs for high balls like Paddy does, or possessing the pace to run in behind and get a shots off which again Paddy is excellent at. Piroe also lacks the energy to repeatedly do the donkey work of closing down from side to side, he does attempt it but at a yard or two slower than Bamford or Rutter plus after doing it a few times he visibly slows even further. So again just my opinion but Farke was using him correctly playing him deeper earlier in the season. Plus today Piroe looked a much better player when he was switched with Rutter which lead to them combining well for the second goal. However in many matches this season Piroe has been virtuallly a passenger and at times fans have been left wondering what exactly it is he brings to team which is maybe why we were exploring the possibility of bringing an extra playmaker in during the January window. Finally I'm not expecting more from Piroe as he's a player with limitations and he does the best he can given his level of ability and the pace he possesses. Does that make Farke responsible for signing a dud ? Well no of course not as Piroe has many good attributes but unfortunately he's not the great striker we all hoped for.
Just to keep Jamster happy, I have posted on numerous occasions that I thought it had been unfair to judge Gnonto's performances this season, compared to last season, given that he is being asked to play on the right, as compared to on the left and when I last made a post on this subject on 27 December 2023, he had been mainly ineffective. Now obviously because Gnonto is having a good spell, Jammy wants to get a cheap shot in as those of us who tried to defend Gnonto's performances pre Christmas, by trying to post a logical reason for an opinion, as opposed to just ranting that "Gnonto is ****e " etc
My point was more that it's Farke that's helped rebuild Gnonto's confidence and given him the belief to do himself justice on the pitch whichever wing he plays on. Balanced and logical opinions on why players aren't perfoming at their best are always well received just for the record
To be honest Jammy, I don't remember anyone other than myself, mentioning the fact about which wings Gnonto played on. Think I mentioned it 4 or 5 times this season, no doubt someone else probably mentioned it on occasion, but not that I ever picked up on, which is why I was surprised you used that as evidence in your discussions with Emu However I already described myself as a football idiot in the OP of this thread, so I can't take exception at you describing me as one
Not discussing or advocating a change of keeper at all at this point. Just trying to say that Klaesson did really well when called upon and that its not great calling fellow fans "idiots" or "ridiculous" for discussing Klaessons run in the team a success and maybe, just maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea to keep having a look at him. To be fair, sky put up a stat yesterday that we had conceded one goal in previous 7 matches but more impressively we'd only conceded something like 7 shots on target. Now that is really a feather in Farkes cap and his system. If the stat was that we had conceded 100 shots on target and only conceded 1 goal then Meslier would be talked up no end.
Firpo is a wing back. He has done well since coming back in. He has had a positive impact going forward and has built up a decent link with Summerville. Firpo playing in a possession based dominant side allows him to push forward and support forward play. That's great for now. The issue with Firpo will come if we go up. He won't be part of an all conquering possession based attacking team. He'll be asked to defend and defend well against better players.....and he'll fail. His defending is abysmal.
With 11 goals he’s our second top scorer behind Summerville. What sort of striker are you looking for?
I only made the comment that I thought Klaesson looked better at dealing with crosses into the box, but we are defending more like the Bielsa days where we dominate possession and limit the amount of shots at goal.
The other thing that lurks in the back of my mind is FFP. If we fail to go up then it might be that Meslier could be the one to leave to fund next season. If Klaesson is good enough to replace him then it might be an idea to find out how good he is this season. It could save us money next summer. I was surprised we let McGurk go too as the likes of Summerville and Gnonto won't be around next season if we stay in the Championship. McGurk might have been a possibility for next season if everything goes tits up. We need a plan A for if we go up, we need a plan B for if we fail and probably a plan C for the outcome of the JKA appeal which looms over us.
Good question as it all about horses for courses and who would suit our style of play the best. Piroe is more a Harry Kane type who drops deep and is always coming towards the ball wheres my preference would be for someone who runs the channels more like a Nunez at Liverpool. At the moment we have the poor mans Nunez in Bamford and the poor man's Kane in Piroe so it's not too bad.
Is there a jka appeal. I thought that fiasco was done and paid up. Not impressed if still hanging over us
