    Ludlow 1:30 Northern Beau

A very reliable performer with 12 runs in the money from 19 starts in the NH game. Will be fitter after coming back from a break last time. Lower hurdles mark today gives this one an excellent chance of reaching a place at least. Ground should be no problem.Stable in good form recently. 16/1 on offer at the moment a generous price.

    Morning, crew. How are you???

Tad disappointed that Tis Fantastic finished runner-up again yesterday. But it was also another solid run and surely, surely, surely his time will come at some point this season. Here’s hoping anyway.

Was nice to see that the old boy handicapper left Coole Cody on 133 but I see that he has raised The Lieutenant’s Epatante a whopping 13 lbs (to 150) following her win on Saturday. Given how dire the division is this must leave her on the cusp of being a ‘Champion Hurdle’ contender – because don’t forget that 7 lbs allowance, team. 25/1 is available.

She is right with this, it seems very odd that a horse like Kalashnikov has so few options available, it is either step up or back down in distance. He seems to be short of pace for the two mile division and she doesn't seem to think he will stay, so as a 'specialist' 2m5 horse she has very few options. Especially given that he wants to go left handed!

Where would you be sending him next?

Barney, what chances of your old mate Nicky the Needle having a few winners up North today?

She dropped a bollock running him in that race at Newbury if she was concerned about placing him in future. She could have gone John Durkan this weekend (although he would stand little chance there). She's ruined his mark chasing a 31 grand pot. She could have held him back for much bigger pots eg The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup, the Betbright Handicap Chase at the trials meeting and keep him ticking over, perhaps with a hurdles race. Plenty of yards very adept at doing this and I can't help feeling she is being a bit whingy.

This horse is a really interesting handicap debutant, having run two very eyecatching efforts at Hexham over 2m and 4 furlongs. Today he steps up in trip, which is what he has looked in need of, given how resolutely he stayed on in both novice races. He has a mark of 106 which given the form with Darry Desbois (115 and 3 lengths behind) that looks fair. Then when you take into account the form of Thomas Macdonagh (hacked up off 117) who beat him 8 lengths it also suggests that the handicapper has probably been lenient with this horse.

The other thing that interests me about him is his pedigree, being by Black Sam Bellamy, a sire who I believe has horses that develop with racing, and if you get one with a nice attitude (I believe this horse is very game) you should see them progress through their novice season. As such, I think progression is likely, and I think the home straight at Haydock will play to his strengths of staying on.

Her parents (who had horses with Lieutenant Henderson for yonks) own the horse so she can say pretty much whatever she likes! I doubt there is much chance of the horse being taken away from the yard.

Did though find her interview prior to the race at the weekend somewhat baffling when she made that point about nothing else being suitable. People wonder why Lieutenant Henderson and Mr Nicholls remain unchallenged at the top of the UK training tree and probably one of the key reasons is that both men have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the programme book and thus know how to place horses. It would appear that several of the ‘new’ brigade don’t.

I say old boy did the steward forget to put the T in you mid-morn GnT that’s no way to talk about the forum’s favourite trainer. Hang your head in shame.

I would expect the 1st one ‘ooooooooooooop’ at Haydock to win (yard won it last year as well) but would be unsure about the 2nd. Opposed in that by Mr Ponsonby I see.

Ran well again, needs them to go a bit harder in the run or even more of a stamina test. He missed two out and looks a slow horse for sure.

Be careful if you are punting in the chase races, they are missing four of the fences out due to ground not being suitable. Seems a farce, either the ground is fine or cancel the races.
