My guess would be we don’t want to pay the £10m for him (or whatever the agreed fee was) so no point him being involved. Or he’s picked up a knock. Would be a surprise if we did end up signing him given his lack of involvement since arriving
What would make sense is the front three being narrow with Matty behind Paul and Sully but I highly doubt that's what it'll be.
Now I’ve thought about it I wonder if the club was using it as basically just a long trial. He fell out with the Rennes management so doubt he would be costing much month to month and we could get a look at him. We obviously weren’t going to spend in Jan due to our position so seems like we just were evaluating him over a lengthened period of time before signing/not signing in the summer. Be interesting if we do sign him permanently
That makes sense to me. I never understand the need to push someone out wide, when you have wingbacks to provide the width. When you have two players hugging the line there’s nobody inside for a passing option.
Watching the strikers warm up. The difference between ours and Palace's are stark. Genuinely Palace are smashing them in at every angle. All of ours bar one at the keeper (the other one was a miss) Our players are so so poor for this league. Dreadful recruitment in every way.
I always thought that was the case but we'd surely want to see him on the pitch enough to make a decent judgement.
Maybe, or playing with so many disinterested players might cloud our judgement on what is potentially a decent player. If we end up signing him for what would be a very large fee in the Championship then I guess we have our answer. Could be another of “not good enough for the PL but would be good in the Championship” type players
I could not get my ticket exchanged but am not bothering with going. A complete waste of time and i have other stuff to at home.
I remember when I used to play 6-a-side occasionally a team clearly miles better joined up and had to start from the bottom division. You knew from the 2 min warm up watching them ping the ball around that the next 40 minutes were about trying to keep the score below 10
