Catterick 1.30 Vertice 14/1

I like these low grade handicaps with 10 + runners and will have a small each way on Vertice. More than one time this horse gave the impression that todays step up in trip could be a good idea. Career-low mark today, hood on and apprentice Aled Beech taking off 5lb will help too. Change of scenery after going to a small yard could have a positive effect. Trainer David Thomson had a winner yesterday at Musselburgh.

Good luck whatever you back today

Bellewstown
16,10 Coulonces 10/3 bet365, others 3/1
17,15 Dashing Shirocco 7/2
18,15 Aprils Joy 8/1 e/w PP and Betfair four places, 15/2 five places with WH and Sky

4th just three length behind the winner. Will keep an eye on this one.

I dont normally touch the Irish racing for betting purposes as its usually all a carve up but occasionally I do add one to my tracker if I spot one when half heartedly watching. This is why I have an interest in the Bellewstown 5:45 today. Since looking at the race early yesterday evening I have noted that the Emmett Mullins horse Creative Dancer has plummeted from double figures to around 4/1. Is this because the yard know he is better than his initial mark or just yard reputation? I hope its the latter as he is not my tracker horse. That dubious honour is bestowed upon LOUP DE TULLANE 16/1 who I think has been snuck into handicaps off a mark that can be worked on. We shall see.

Had a modest win bet on Wow William in the 20:10 at Wolves. Form indicates has a reasonable chance in this.

4th! :emoticon-0100-smile

The opener at Deauville is tricky to assess in terms of form strength. The favourite Twilight was second on debut but the 3rd, 4th and 5th from that race all ran in the same contest next time and were 4th, 3rd and 6th but beaten a good bit further on that occasion. That seems to suggest their debut race wasn't great shakes.

I gravitated towards Chantarella. The Charm Spirit was 4th on debut over 7F staying on well from midfield, just failing to snatch 3rd place. The runner up from that race won a maiden next time out, while the 3rd home failed by only a head in her next maiden event. There seems some solidity to the form and it looked like Chantarella was ready for this step up to a mile. In a tricky race she appealed as a bit of value at 9/1. Stable form is not the greatest but they seem to run big priced horses in most instances, so the strike rate is never likely to be high. Jean-Claude Rouget is a tough man to be opposing mind you, he's currently on 45% winners and an incredible 24 of his last 31 runners have won or been placed.

3.06 Deauville Chantarella 9/1

Great shout Grendel, shame it’s on the wrong daily thread :)

At least it wasn't on Friday's thread. That would have been serious aftertiming. I was on oxygen as the closers were coming but she held on by a short head.

Nice to get a winner at Deauville after my Morny selection ran 21 lbs below her rating at the weekend.
