Rather hoping we might see a Tipperary point meeting preview from our Irish mole tomorrow. Two I like on pedigree are Focus Point 2:30 and Glebe Road 3:40.
Haydock 2.02 Repetitio Very reliable sort for connections over hurdles ( 7 times in the first three from 9 runs) who is 1lb lower than when winning a handicap at Cheltenham in december 2019. Has run well on 2nd run after a break in 2019 and 2020. No ground worries and Nigel Hawke has had 4 runs 2 wins 1 placed in handicap hurdles at Haydock over the last 5 seasons. Stable in good form recently (3 winners in the last 14 days). Repetitio ran well at Haydock when 2nd on the flat in july 2020.
Shiekh Hamdan Al Maktoum has passed away at 75. Owner of the mighty Nashwan, Salsabil, Dayjur and others. Recently Prince Khalid and now Shiekh Hamdan, big changes in racing.
Haydock 2.37 Jayaah Sue Smith said in her stable tour last year he is "a big chaser in the making". Good start to the season when 2nd in a novice hurdle at Carlisle but well held in 3 runs after this. 5lb lower today and upped in trip to 3 m could unlock some progress. Stable has smart stats for each way purposes at Haydock in handicap hurdles with 18 in the first three from 33 runs. Yard in good form recently (2 wins 3 places last 14 days).
Chaser in the making means that it’s either - 1 - big and backward 2 - rubbish but we need your money for another season so will make it jump big fences 3 - actually likely to improve over fences Think the spread is 90/10 to the first two!!
5 posts on the daily thread. Thank goodness the flat season starts properly in 3 weeks. Always seemed the most human of the Maktoums. Proved his salt by the way he stood by Dick Hern back in '89/90. Seemed loyal to his trainers even when they were struggling (eg Tregoning). You see horses running in similar colours so presume that a close relation (he seems to have 3 sons) may take over the racing and breeding empire.
Horse needs following, they gave the winner an easy lead but the horse you put up ran very well and the yard are in much better form as you say.
Very sad news. The numerous articles in the racing press show he was loyal to trainers and those looking after his horses. The substantial donation to the Pat Smullen research fund just one example of his support.
