I still think it was a huge performance today, Sea The Stars had 3yo weight allowance and the race was set up perfectly for a fast time, where as today they probably went too fast to produce the fastest possible time, the faster they go earlier the slower they will finish. The strong gallop had killed most of the field by 2 out and Frankel was just getting going still well on the bridle, hes incredible, although it shows that the opposition is not great, Nathaniel all out to beat Farrh half length tells you everything about the middle distance division, they are decent animals but they are some way off top Group 1 animals, and a million miles off a wonder horse like Frankel. If they run in the Arc he will win, its as simple as that, he is just that much better than anything around just now it wouldnt matter if he truly stayed the 1m4 or not.
I notice Marie des anges is down to run tonight at Newton abbot....any news as to what they are expecting stick? The drop back in trip looks like it will suit and looks the one to beat to me!
Just back from York, truly outstanding race by Frankel and a lap of honour, not seen that before. The ovation was unbelievable from all corners of the course. By the way the time was irrelevant eased home into a strong headwind, history is written pleased I was part of it God bless Sir Henry doesn't seem to strong hopefully we will see him on a racecourse again
Another one just checking in from York. Today was the most atmospheric I've seen a racecourse. We waited by the paddock an hour before the big race, and still ended up 4 off the rail! Sir Henry was clapped out of the paddock prior to the Great Voltigeur, very moving. For those asking about his health, he has been undergoing more chemo in recent months - he was last seen on a racecourse in late June. I had the privilege to meet him on the Newmarket gallops just before Goodwood and he could barely speak, the treatment having caused the loss of his voice. I hope to god he can fight back from this.
I do envy you lot all having been to York to witness another demolition job. I hope he comes over to France. 1/4 with a run. please log in to view this image
