Joking aside, the 99 rated pacemaker has run to 120 and the 109 rated winner to around 130 if the form is to be believed, knowing what York has become im inclined to doubt the legitimacy of the form, not the result on the day, but the worth of the form going forward

I like a big priced punt, and am normally scrambling around for place money but days like this make up for it. Credit to the filly, her dam was tough as old boots who gave me some good days out at the races

However that was to win a Monday evening Windsor maiden, whilst tomorrows is a highly competitive York nursery. The price reflects this however and so I must put it up again. I really think this horse has yet to show it's ability and will reach a mark between 10-15lb higher than it's current mark by the end of the season. However there are likely 4 or 5 others to which that remark could apply.

I have no way to explain that run guys but it needs writing off as that was not the same horse as ran at Goodwood. The horse never travelled today and was pushed along from the start, as opposed to Goodwood in which it travelled over everything and just never found a gap. This horse is better than this.

Well done Florida. I've been following De Sousa and looked at his 5 runners last night. Thought none of his runners had much of a chance with the prices but as I've backed him all season I didn't want to leave him alone. So I did the pretty pointless bet of a 5p ew lucky 31 'just in case'. Got 66/1 on Arabian Queen when I put it on. Less the rule 4 and with Teak being a non runner I got the life changing sum of £4.09. I'm not trying to after time. I backed the jockey not the horse and it wouldn't have being one I'd have tipped, my proper money went on The Grey Gatsby (despite that dick being onboard). So just wanted to say a massive congratulations to Florida for keeping the faith with the horse, having the balls to tip it and also the sense to have a worthwhile bet on it. I've browsed a few racing forums in the past but the quality of tips, the knowledge of members and even the banter on here make this one second to none

Ok so does this mean the 3yr old filly form is stronger than the colts! I bet cool more are cursing not taking their chance with Legatissimo today IMO she would have beaten her the winner today but got to give her credit she is a tough ****ing little cookie who completely deserved her win today! Just knuckled down and won fair and square today

Ok now to the next point - every single winner today if I'm not mistaken was up at the front from the beginning so Legatissimo would have been more up with it than Golden Horn! She does battle although got done by her own 50/1 outsider she didn't crumble just got done on the line again she has stamina so the ground wouldn't have matteredshe does go on any ground not a worry and she lost to DAR who had 1st run on her, she beat The winner in to third lto very comfortable and would have taken the same tactics.

This is the first time we have Seen Golden horn in a fight and whether it was the ground, whether it was he can't handle pressure or whether he was just beaten by the best horse on the day, he didn't come out of it the way we all expected and next time if he was in one again I wouldn't be that confident. Not taking anything away from him he is a very class horse, who although this lost is a blemish on his stud book it still doesn't take away the fact he is still a derby, eclipse winner, who's form wil only be franked more in the future altho it doesn't need any proving as look what Jack Hobbs ( are goldophin cursing themselves for not going today) Storm the stars has all done since. But it has just proved Golden Horn needs good ground and taking him out the king George was the right thing to do. And fully expect him to win next time out on his ground, when he retires to stud He will go down as a great , a true great like frankel, NO ! Not because of his loss today but because the fact today proved he is very much a ground dependant horse

Just got in. Oh dear. Been backing every De Sousa ride for weeks and made a tidy profit. Looked at all his rides at York today and thought they were all outsiders so didn't back them. Put one bet on. Golden horn. Thought if it runs it wins. Beaten by a 50-1 shot ridden by................

Agree with everything you say, but having watched this filly all season, she's improving all the time. It may be after timing, but I did think the fillies might be better than the colts this year.

The work that has been done at York in the last decade has not all been entirely good news. After the flooding of the Knavesmire, they had all the drainage work done.

Before the drainage work was done, runners in races over more than six furlongs always used to stay on the far side rail up the straight. Now they come up the centre of the course or up that stands side rail. The only time runners came up the stands side in races on the round course was when the going was soft because the ground naturally drained towards to the centre of the course.

That is why I hardly touch the races at York these days because you have virtually no way of knowing how the race is going to be run once they turn into the straight. In a couple of the races today the field was spread halfway across the track. Some punters today will not have got a run for their money because their mount’s jockey made a split-second decision to follow the wrong horse.

I would certainly challenge that assertion. Brigadier Gerard was beaten by a decent Derby winner, Roberto; and subsequently I believe it turned out there had been something amiss with Dick Hern’s colt. Golden Horn was beaten by an ordinary filly, Arabian Queen, probably as a result of a combination of the easy ground and the way the race was run; and also the turn of foot that he showed on the course in the Dante appeared AWOL today. Clearly he did not run to form. On the ratings, the Derby winner was 21lb better than the filly; however, congratulations to Sylvestre de Sousa and David Elsworth for successfully plotting a big race victory for Jeff Smith’s three-year-old.

I think we can forget any notion of Golden Horn running in the Arc. Both he and Gleneagles may not be seen again in Europe. If there is fast ground at Keeneland, the Breeders’ Cup Mile for Gleneagles and the Breeders’ Cup Turf for Golden Horn.
 
Well I agree with London Man. Brigadier Gerard's defeat was a much bigger shock. Golden Horn is a good colt and probably a good Derby winner, but he'd done nothing to show he was a great.

I'm also very glad that the idea of taking on a cert has proved to be worth it. Horses are not machines and though it was a shock yesterday it added to the spice of the sport I love.
