Morning, pilgrims. Good to see Newbury pass the old assessor but it’s no surprise as they’re hardy souls, across the county line, in Royal Berkshire and unlike a few other areas of the Isle aren’t put off by a bit of cold weather. Anyway down to ‘brass tacks’ and I quite like a couple at the fixture: ***o (1.20) – has his first run on these shores after arriving from across the Channel where he has proved himself more than useful this term by winning and being Grade 1 placed. Mr Nicholls has spoken about how he believes this horse to have plenty of speed and hence the drop in trip for his UK bow. Looks potentially very exciting and ought to have too much class for today’s opponents. A nice win here could propel him towards the front of the Arkle market. Goring One (2.25) – I’m Amazed with a capital ‘A’ with the price re this one and would certainly advise an each-way tickle, to the regular readers, at 14/1. Has looked most progressive in his last 2 races – a 2nd to the prolific Peat The Feat (won twice after this and finished a close 3rd, off 24 pounds higher, in the Warwick Classic, since beating Goring One) and then a win over Plein Pouvoir at Wincanton (the latter has subsequently obliged at Cheltenham). Also has the distinct advantage of receiving weight from all his 13 opponents this afternoon. Good luck all.
This Seventh Sign could make a very nice hurdler, might even make a chaser, King ran his Triumph horse in this race last season but I cant see this one in the betting.... Will back him today anyway, certainly wont mind the ground. Apparently Carmody always had him earmarked for a jumping campaign and you can see why looking at him.
The novice chase looks potentially very interesting today at Newbury. Open Hearted would be my selection at a decent price of 5/1.
I have had a play on Fargo, he is my nap, despite saying that I wouldn't have a bet before the weekend. The rationale is that he is highly rated, has the maestro on his back and I think most of his rivals are possibly overrated on their hurdles form. I have had a little L15 on - Seventh Sign Chiberta King (think he is much better than form and this course should suit a whole lot more) Monkey Tunkerty Chapoturgeon (if the first three win I will be very happy to have him as the anchor - he should win on the bridle and almost had a good dabble on him at 4/6)
Good morning on what is a very frosty and cold day... Heis we are staying frosty at the mo...!!! Anyway, my picks for Newbury... 12.50 - Trend Is My Friend, 3/1 1.20 - ***o, 11/10... * 1.55 - Imperial Leader, 13/8... * 2.25 - Thanks For Coming, 12/1 3.00 - Jakies Solitaire, 2/1 3.30 - Piccadilly Line, 10/1 4.05 - Chaptoturgeon, 4/6... * Patrick Power has given me a free £10 bet so ive done the treble on the * ones... Pays @ roughly 9/1... Good luck to all for today...
Haha, indeed. I shouldn't have done the L15, but at least it is just small stakes, I will be annoyed with myself if just Chapo wins.
The Williams horse is the obvious eye catcher and one to follow from the race. His hurdlers improved an astounding 25lbs from debut to second race last season. If that chap improves 25lbs he's going to be winning some big races. Thanks to boris. I wouldn't have bothered backing anything there but followed you in on the winner.
ooooo, thought he was getting nailed, I was pretty sure he hung on as they flashed past tho got 2/1! good start to the day giving this ***o a good look now, looks a dodgy race tho and hes giving weight, not sure there is much value in the current price.
***o definitely the most likely winner based on the French graded form but at even money and giving weight away you need your head reading to get involved.
Won quite easily. Ohio Gold ran well. Open Hearted ran well after a long break and might come on for that run. Probably has a novice chase or two in him. Liked ***o's jumping in the main.
Apart from the water jump ***o looked very comfortable all the way around... Quiet impressed with that performance... Well done all you ***o backers...
