Perhaps not a great Musidora and I doubt whether the Oaks winner was in that field. That said Varian is a clever placer of his horses, after all he learned his trade from the late Michael Jarvis whose stable he took over. I suspect that Nausha may well go for the prix Diane as she did not appear to be crying out for an extra two furlongs. Tomorrow he runs Surfman in the Dante 7/1 in places - as low as 9/2 with Paddy Power. Underestimate this horse at your peril. Varian often starts his good horses at Nottingham which is where Surfman won his maiden. His prep race was at Newcastle 10 furlongs,it was a poor race which he won by 14 lengths. If he wins well tomorrow he will be in the Derby picture especially if UAE Jewel goes to France.
He certainly was well handicapped, well done. He hasnt run a bad race all season for all he was beaten twice, they have found his game now at 7f. I thought it was a good ride to be fair, saw him taking a tug and then coming over to the side where everything has been winning, obviously knew he had plenty in hand.
None of the fillies trials have been particularly strong, Guineas included. Maqsad and Mehdaayih have been the most impressive but neither screaming out for 12f at Epsom. Fresnel was beaten 2L by Pink Dogwood in Ireland, beaten 1 3/4 today. Frankellina and Entitle are still open to improvement I suppose. The Newbury trial is my favourite and hopefully it can produce something again this year. Last year Sea Of Class won it and it looks like the same connections have another nice one this time in Sea Of Faith, I think shes worth backing for the Oaks at 20/1 and on Saturday.
