Wealth and success or lose our players and start again?

?

Which would you rather have?

  1. Arab billions to buy our dream team

  2. Stay as we are, even if it means losing Modric and others

Had to vote for the money.

I want to be sentimental and say "we are better than that"; however realistically that will never bring success in the long term. I think of it in comparison to the CL. I think it's fairly commonly accepted that before Oligarch investors the CL provided the financial bonus that allowed teams to progress and widened the gap between the have's and have not's ... or at least I see it that way. Being a part of that club helped to (in general) provide a stability at clubs and help them retain those CL places.

As much as it saddens me I see that football is headed the same way with the rich set buying football teams as play things in the way it used to be fan's done good that became principal investors. Therefore I think it is only a matter of time before most clubs have such investors and the playing field starts to re-level itself with the only difference being the amount of money all involved make.

So for me the decision is only do we want to be the first or the last ones there and I want Spurs to be successful.

Unforunately I voted for the billions (not that I think it will happen).

We are no longer playing on a level playing field and if we are realistic City in particular with the money they have will get stronger and stronger each year. Money talks in football and if we cant offer the wages that the others can how do we hope to even attract the better players.

I think it is a bit of a vicious circle, no money means you cant attract the top players which means you will struggle to qualify for the CL which means you will struggle to attract the top players.

I want to see my team up there and not think that it is not a strong challenge.
I want to see this great club rise again to the very top since we have already proven that with limited funds we were able to consistently knock on the sky4 door.

I want to laugh at Chelsea fans who remind us that we used to vilify them for being a billionaires toy.
I want to laugh at Arsenal fans who will tell us we bought a trophy.
I want to laugh at LFC a little bit more than I already do.
I want to see a PL referee begging us to take him on our pay roll.

    if true....

HIAG my friend 'Marhaba' to the Arabs!

I said every post I have seen of yours, I don't come on this board too often but what I noticed reading through some of these threads were your obsession with Arsenal (don't know if your equally obsessed with Liverpool or not though I wouldn't be surprised). Back on topic I think Spurs would require major investment if they have any hope of developing and catching the big teams, it would also make the derbies more interesting at least.

I support the club through thick and thin and never want to see us artificially stuck at the top of the league with money that we haven't earnt.

Loving my club has nothing to do with success and trophies. Besides I like a bit of drama, no one watches films where everything goes well all the time and everyone's happy because it's boring :)

I voted for the money but only because that is the only way we could compete for titles and CL's these days.

last time i saw you on this board you threw your toys out of your pram...and i think it will happen again judging from the patronising post..because you will get reminded of your not so well hidden wummery as for making NLD more exciting.....are you forgetting your pastings before the 5-2 blinded you? i hope you keep RVP or we might be screwing you for seasons to come in the derbies...and with limited finances we have been knocking on the top 4 door for the last 5 years...so we do not need a massive injection..with all this in mind we finished 1 point behind your cack...and this is the point where you remind me that we had a 10 point lead and blew it...but since your concern is about how much investement we need..that should show you once again that we dont need much..as we can bypass you healthily without an investement.

IT wasn't a wumm you idiot, we just strengthened our team so naturally if you strengthened your team it would make the matches more interesting, I did not mention positions, points or anything like that, if a rival improves their team then there's always an extra incentive in the games and a bigger feeling of reward for winning. The only one throwing his toys out of the pram is you, you have jumped to conclusions when I was trying to be constructive in this debate.

I went for the billions not to buy success, but to stop other teams cherry picking our squad.

I don't mind if I am viewed as short sighted but I voted in the minority (it seems).

I have plenty of reasons for not wanting to be Man City, I can list them but I fear I will be writing things that other fans might quite like. I will also be viewed as a knob.

not at all Baz..i think all of us hold our traditions close..and we have become conditioned to having a certain moral code with regards to a massive investor coming in and us becoming a Chelsea,City..we all hold that view..but alot of us also realise that in reality unless we want to hover around and strategically break the top 4 regular which could take us many years..we can push on asap with the investement.

i chose for the Millions..but i totally understand the other side as a part of me believes that also.

There is no real split here I agree with you and YV and Hamburg all make points that I accept. It's that bloody HIAG forcing us to make a choice, when in reality we don't have one.

    Ha! Cheers guys

I agree my post was a little morose but you got the general feeling.

Spurlock lists reasons close to my heart, I am no wally, I know the modern game requires investment and of course we've had that too. I just would hate for us to lose that sense of being Tottenham, super Tottenham from the lane.

  19. By calling me obsessed based on your occasional treks to this board?

    Hm.

You sound a bit thick to me.
