I'd like to think so and it was widely reported that we did too. Only reason I believe it is that we scouted him loads and we must have known the kind of price we'd be paying for him.

Even if we didn't bid we must surely have 15m kicking around to get those two promising British lads. If we sell Cabaye we could then get Will Hughes (8m) and McCarthy (10m) and for an outlay of 15m in total we've then got some good squad depth, added some British players to a squad that is unbalanced (nationtallity wise) and our outlay on wages would be the same or less than last season due to no Cabaye, Perch, Simpson, Harper.

It's such an easy window to operate in, I mean the above named players have all been confirmed as available for pretty much the above prices, they'd all want to play premier league football in front of 52k and they'd all want game time which they'd all get (all four would make 15-20 starts with sub appearances on top IMO) and yet we're here with four days to go and we're chasing a 28 year old french striker that doesn't sound like he truly wants to come.
