    People are mentioning this wage cap, but it's only relevant if Barton is actually being offered the rate at the very top of the cap, and he better be. He should be one of the highest earners at the club along with Tiote, Enrique and others of important value.

    If he's being offered anything less, then it's shocking.

    The wage cap has to be stuck to, £50k should be enough to keep our best players as its only £10k less than Spurs wage cap (I actually thought theres was £50k too but I'll take AG's word for it).

    Ages ago Barton said he was willing to take a cut to see out his career here (I think he did anyway), so give him the £50k a week on a 4 year deal, with the possibility of extending it if he is still a key player come that time. Simple.
