The Swansea Valleys
Surprised nobody has picked up on this huge news at our club, we now have a category 2 Academy at our club. What brilliant news.

Following months of hard work by a number of people, the club can now boast a category two Academy for the development of our young players.
This means that the club’s youngsters will come face-to-face with quality opposition on a weekly basis as they bid to earn a professional contract.

“You have to educate the players as well, not just coach them everyday. Analysis and Sports Science are both important components of their development, and we have bought into that as a club.

That is great news, in fairness I don't think the club shouted enough about it.... Still chuffed..... :)

As the article says, a culmination of an awful lot of hard work put in by Tony Pennock and his staff. It's a significant step forward and it is one of the true legacies of our time on the Premier League.

Great news. I think no-one picks up on these things because they are more interested in day-to-day stuff than long-term stuff. Just human nature I suppose. We all know the long-term counts but tend to make decisions and show interest in short-term things.

I dont know if any of you go down to ST Hellens when the youth have a game on as its free to get in and they usually kick off at 11am....there is a good standard of football being played and some good prospects on show, sadly i have not been to see them this season yet but i will soon......Its what Sunday mornings are all about before going to the pub....

I haven't been down there this season at all, though I did catch some reserve games last season in parc y scarlets. This is exciting stuff though and it is a legacy for our club and the players of the future. We need though to get the academy up to the best standards, was reading the norwich site a few days ago and the investment for that is a minimum of £3.5m a year.

Excellent news , been banging on about this for years and years! I can really see us bringing players through the academy now, no longer will players be poached on our doorsteps by the sellouts up in cardiff ;)

its not a case of them poaching players ,its just that we at the moment are a little behind cardiff in the way we encourage the kids, where as they cast a wide net we're more selective. The amount of scouts that cardiff have on our door step is quite amazing and the number of Swansea kids being coached by them may surprise you.I've nothing against that as long as they're coached correctly, the new Academy status hopefully will go a long way in reversing the current trend and make us more competitive .I believe we've been fortunate with gaining PL status because without it we'd still be lagging behind .
