I think the next step for Giroud is to have a real impact in a big game. I know he scored against Spurs, but he did not really take hold of that game. He is capable and hopefully he does it when we next face one Man City,Spurs,Chelsea or Man Utd.
So far it still is a big IF - if he is able to make this step. Give him this season to adapt, he is not ready yet. EPL is faster and he is still lagging a bit. He needs to be more alert, agile and quick.
To be fair, coming from Montpellier to Arsenal is a big step up. I think he's done really well so far. I know he took a while to start scoring but they are coming now and his overall game is improving. If he keeps it up he could become one of the most influential players in the second half of this season.
No goals but 2 assists for Giroud He's proving his worth. Anyone know his Goal // Assist Stats and Appearances so far this season?
Well he works much harder than Adebayor and has a better attitude. I would say in terms of ability Ade is actually the better player but the big African is never going to live up to his potential. He could have been another Drogba but he seems more interested in money than anything else. So yeah I would rather have Giroud.
I agree when you say that his link up play could do with more work, but i do feel that he is getting there. In all honesty he tries too hard for me, he is trying to impress and thats understandable but his play seems very un-natural like he's trying to force his performance. To be fair the pressure on him is always going to be huge because he is the one playing down the middle where rvp played. And his height does give us another option but i don't want to see us just using that option when we get to the opponents box and run out of ideas which has happened alot in recent games, and his link up play right now is one of his weaknesses which is worrying but wenger sees him everyday in training and he must think that giroud has it in him to be a top striker for us. I would still like us to go and get another striker in january though.
The next step in his development is to make a telling contribution in a big game. The Liverpool game would be a start, then of course, the Bayern Munich games.
Yep, he still needs to make a difference in some of these big key games. He's going about his business though, definitely a player who's making a mark at Arsenal and getting better.
Hes scored against Brighton West Ham (both games) Newcastle Spuds Fulham Schalke Reading Coventry Most of those were part of big wins where we would have won without the extra goals he got including the spuds. The only significant goals were the Reading and Schalke draws that we would have lost without his goals. If he can become a match winner for us I will be a lot happier.
His two goals today meant we won. If Walcott had scored first and then Brighton came back to lead 2-1, before Giroud got his goals, we would be creaming our pants about him (I know Kyle already does )
People say the same thing about Walcott. Fact is, if there are more goals in a game, a player is more likely to score in it. Call it the law of averages lol....
The thing is this season too, is that more of our players are sharing the goals, Walcott has got 15, Giroud 13, Podolski 11. Last season it was pretty much all RVP, but he was spearhead of our attack. This is why I'm so interested to see what our overall scoring will be compared to last season.
