I don't typically like the articles in the Daily Mail but this is a half decent one.

If we accept around 35M for Cesc + 5M for Clichy that gives us 40M.

That should be enough for Cahill, Samba or Jagielka + Baines + Gervinho

Still think we need a decent Centre Forward (hopefully Falco)

I'd love it if we shaped up like this:

Sagna - Jagielka? - Vermaelen - Baines?

Walcott - Wilshere - Song - Gervinho?

Van Persie - Falco?
 
If we got Jagielka, I would probably die with happiness. Love him so so so much
Not the biggest fan of Baines, but that could be down more to his face than anything else
Falco, while I do have little knowledge, what I have seen has been very good
Seen more of Hazard as well, but Gervinho still looks good <ok>

Fabregas and pre-january Nasri are our other dependable players for creativity. One of our main problems is that not many players step up when needed. If the whole team is playing well then all of our front players look dangerous, however if that isn't the case we get this boring sideways passing outside the opponents box that is so turgid we may as well be on the halfway line. I used to think it was due to the quality of our players but now I am sure it is due to the coaching at arsenal.

Direct players like Rosicky and Arshavin have become less effective because they now prefer to pass off the responsibility to other players rather than try something different. Their ability to produce moments of magic was what made them extra special before they moved to arsenal and as it is slowly disappearing from their game (in Arshavin's case) or has completely gone already (in Rosicky's case) it makes me think that the coaching set up is responsible for it. Although football these days is much more of a systematic team game than is used to be that does not mean that we should let our player be indoctrinated in an approach where forward passing is feared because we may lost the ball. Players have to be prepared to take risks.
 
Commenting on the topic the OP missed, I think we have missed David Dein. He was a master negotiater and brought great world class players to our club. He was the one who helped to assemble the Invincibles squad. It was he and Wenger who rebuilt the club and the glory days. Wenger's recent struggle since his departure is not simply coincidental - it's as a direct result.

Since he was unceremoniously ousted we have missed his tenacity in the transfer market and his ability to convince the best players to join. His subsequent move after leaving the club in cozying up to Usmanov however, was a big mistake and has alienated him further from the fold.

But I still think he is an Arsenal man through and through and more importantly, one that we still need.
 
Fishing for some Mod glory eh Cym? <laugh> Dein might be a spiv, but his deals for Arsenal were legendary - and since he got booted off the board, we've been lacklustre in making signings.

Take him back I say <grr>

Smiffy is way to ugly for her - Dein is a **** for selling out to Usmanov, but we still haven't replaced his skill on the board.

Dein sold his soul to usmanov, he can shove that 75 million up his arse.
i don't want him back. i don't believe he has the clubs best interests at heart, i'm not sure he ever did.
