I find it quite amusing because nufc fans hate being described as delusional and as having unrealistic expectations. They've gone to great lengths to try and refute those claims and one or two pundits and presenters were beginning to fight their corner , however since then shay given and now dan Burn have completely destroyed their defence. I've also noticed nufc fans are so afraid of he accusation that they lie about their expectations . ..."oh mid table or just get into the top half "
It’s all completely relative. Look at the insane euphoria when City won their first PL, was mental. Look at it now. Expectations always creep up. Howe has to understand that draws against Bouremouth even at this early stage will be seen as poor. Burn has done a Bruce with that one, a lot of fans will be deeply unimpressed. Forest fans will expect their team to beat Bournemouth and will be pissed off if/when they don’t. It was a **** result, Burn was poor, Howe was worse. They should be apologising not blaming either the fans or the otter players.
I think describing an NUFC fan as an "other" entity is quite telling of your actual mindset on the matter. You bitch just as much as anyone on here after a defeat. You were one of two, me and you, who criticised the team after our last draw. Which many would consider, delusional.
I predicted we'd struggle vs Bournemouth in fact I rarely predict a win, so I'm covered on the delusional front If anything I could be seen as overly negative.
Burn wasn't poor. He was terrible. I have said this before but I will reiterate it. He is good when the ball is hoofed in the air but is terrible when someone is dribbling at him. Botman, is streets ahead of him at only 22. Burn is backup and nothing more. He is slightly better than Lascelles but that is it
I completely agree. As i said, I'm utterly baffled why - in one of the easier matches of the season - Botman's on a bench. Burn's been part of a sloppy, uninspired start. We were very poor vs. Brighton, poor vs. Wolves and worse against both Palace and B'mth. Yes, City was an excellent showing and we did get robbed of a goal vs Palace and a draw vs Liverpool, so it's not doom and gloom - but it's below expectations. Burn was a sub utility defender at Brighton. He's done some decent things and is reliable - but Howe starting him most weeks is weird.
I don't think we were poor against Palace and Bournemouth. Bournemouth did to us what we did to teams under Bruce and Rafa. Our lack of width was the issue. Brighton was poor and we escaped with a point there, for sure. We've both alluded to lack of depth in the squad. That's the crux of that issue. Our reserve players (including Burn) are miles off the first team. I think this season we will have teething issues. Anywhere between 8th and 10th is where I suspect we will finish. Think we just need to buckle up and enjoy the ride. Despite the issues, we are streets ahead of where we were last season. I'm optimistic but not blind to the issues (like yourself)
The expectation is a bit mad with people calling for the managers head etc and "disappointed" by the start - 10th-8th and a cup run should be the aim. We're currently 10th and still in the cup so... fine atm - not great but not bad either. We've been behind for a total of 110mins so far this season and only lost one game in the last min. 3 points behind Fulham in 6th at present! Also we've been playing without Wilson, Bruno and ASM for the last few games - 3 of our most important players. As much as some may not like it - Shelvey would be a useful player against teams sitting in and defending deep with his ability to unlock a defense with a pass as well. Fully expect the three points vs Fulham once ASM and Wilson are back and Bruno has a few weeks training under his belt. Agree on Burn - him and Lacselles should be back up with Botman starting alongside Schar. I'd hope for another CB in the next window, alongside some wingers to boost our ability to play through teams. Love Miggy, and think he's a CAM really but as a left footed winger out on the right he's no good, great work rate, not much in way of production. Isak would be my shout out there once Wilsons back up top.
A large number of fans seem to think newcastle has turned into Manchester City because they drew with them at home. There's plenty expecting a to 6 challenge without any real grounds for it yet. This lead to them booing the manager and players on Saturday. It's not possible to control it or explain it'll take a few years longer.
I get that but hopefully the sensible ones will be able to see after 7 league games and a cup game last year we had 3 points on the board and were out of the cup, losing 5/8 inc. the cup game with 0 wins and hadn't played any of the top 4 in there, where as this season we have lost 1/8 and have 7 points on the board already, through in the cup and already played the top 2. Yes we've spent over £200m but then you've got to look at the form since spending that money (since Jan). 24 games - 13 wins, 5 draws, 6 losses
