If Wenger has any money spare, he should start by purchasing a proper coat to replace that sleeping bag with sleeves he wears.
I suspect no clubs will even sniff in our direction, what with the length of contact on most of them! My only concern is Shaw, as untill he is 18 the contract isn't 'proper'? Though he has apparently agreed to a 5 year job, which will put off a lot of teams, as to buy that out would take a lot of dough!
Don't worry, Wenger mainly buys average players and turns them into very good players. Therefore, he won't buy any of our key players.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, we'll only sell one of our top players if they want to go in which case we'll extract top dollar for them. As much as we think our players bleed red and white the reality is that many of them would force a move if the big boys came knocking. Sorry, but that's the way it is - not just for us, for all clubs with few exceptions. Arsenal themselves have faced this, even Man U have.
Wenger has plenty of left backs so cant see him coming after Shaw. The paid about 8 million for one in January and still have Gibbs who is quality when injured. I don't think he would go after any of our front players as they are still developing (Rickie aside but he's not a Wenger sort of player), Wenger needs to buy a world class forward this summer to make any difference and ours are not at that level yet. I don't think he would have Clyne over Sagna at right back and they still havel Carl Jenkinson as cover. We are looking at strengthening at CB so can't see him coming in for them. That leaves midfield and Morgan. He is the only one that Wenger may go for imo. Him and Wiltshire would make a great centre midfield pairing. However he only signed a new contract in February so obviously wants to stay here. It wouls take a special offer for us to let him go I think. So I guess for once we are safe from Mr Wengers clutches.
He could go for Boruc, they need a decent keeper who isn't injury prone. Just need Boruc and Cork to sign long term deals; Cork's contract isn't up until 2015 so I think that he won't get a new contract until nearer the time.
I think players just like it at Southampton, I really do. The core of the squad has been together since 2009, so they know each other well. Adkins always placed great faith in players who got on well together, and I've no doubt that works very well. He once mentioned about the odd wrong 'un, [I believe he was closely referring to Puncheon at the time] disrupting the family feel to the squad. Puncheon mended his ways and nowadays is totally integral. I'm sure that players coming into Southampton FC have to have a good attitude, other wise they don't come here. The manager is every bit as important, and Poch seems to be exactly right in that regard too. This all fits in well with the ideology of the club and the legacy of Markus Liebherr.
I think we have a great team spirit that the management have worked hard on. But if you think that Morgan would stay if Man U came after him you're kidding yourself, you really are. I'm not saying they will or that he will go but if they did he probably would.
Personally, I think Morgan would be one of the last tempted out of the door. Artur Boruc, on the other hand...
Reality check. We have not made it anywhere yet. It's all really exciting and unusual for us Saints fans to be surrounded with so much positivity, yet let's not forget these players all have agents. I agree that it's a happy bunch now, however if a big team comes in for one of them it could be hard to resist. By all means rest assured that Mr Cortese will extract a good deal from any such situations, but please remember these are young men with agents waving notes in their eyes. Please also remember how much the media don't like the way Cortese is doing things and they will jump at the chance to encourage any departure rumours. This too can effect young footballers.
