Had they spat on the memorial then fair enough, they deserve a beating, but to say they did when they didn't is disgusting , and an insult to the 96 who died that day. To be fair it was just the Mirror (and other rags) reporting the rumours a lot of Liverpool fans were spreading on Twitter after the match.

Not wanting to make light out of the situation, but you'd have thought that, when it comes to Hillsborough, Liverpool fans would know better than anyone not to blindly believe the rumours other people are spreading.

 

Not disagreeing with your overall point but how many times have rumours been deliberately started on twitter for other than good reasons, tbf the Chelsea fans at the game had every right to have a go at Gerrard and any matchgoer will know that Chelsea like most clubs who like a punch up after the game, just sensationalism imho.

Sorry DR I didn't see it as below the belt, as i think it is wrong in so many ways to make up things involving that tragedy, so that you have an excuse to beat people up. There's CCTV on the memorial and there was nothing, so clearly Liverpool supporters have started that rumour. As I can't imagine Chelsea fans would start it.

So Sherlock the scenario you paint, Liverpool supporters in the Anfield Rd end in the next section to the Chelsea fans fiendishly use their mobile phones to post a rumour on twitter that Chelsea fans spat on the memorial, therefore giving them justification to fight with the Chelsea hooligans.

The rumour came hours after the two sets of hooligans had the punch up.
