I doubt if our performances against Manure cost us the league, what really cost us was NOT strengthening in the January window and not addressing the area we were lacking. You cannot win the league with Giroud as your main striker. It was an opportunity missed, as next year Pellegrini would have got another year in the league and Chelsea would address their lack of a decent striker issue.
Still if we finish 4th and win the FA Cup, that would be a good season, as I would have taken that at the start.

I don't know, we were ahead at half way and I think we proved we could win the league with Giroud as striker. I think what lost it for us was having Wilshere, Ramsey and Ozil, injured at the same time, for a long time. The three of them take a lot of stick, but all 3 run our midfield in the creative sense, and missing all of them for that long (which surely was unpredictable) was just impossible to overcome. Rosicky doesn't have the same creativity, Cazorla is a bit too Barcelona on his own and we get a little too tippy-tappy and sideways without these three.

When we miss them, Arteta and Flamini try to push up and attack, the wingers and full-backs do the same and we lose all shape and get turned over defensively.

People focus on Giroud and I don't deny that I would love a Henry in his prime leading the line, but IMO that wasn't what killed us this year. We could have overcome that problem if everything else remained the same.

Our performances against all the TOP sides are what cost us.

We played poorly against City, Liverpool,Chelsea United and Everton.

Even though he's had a decent Season ..Giroud was particularly painful to watch in all of those matches.

I think that Arsenal lost it because of injuries. Just look at the table and Arsenal are just 10 points off the top. All those points have been dropped through the time when the midfield starting line up was injured. The team lost confidence due to injuries also. Arsenal could have won it this year and should be positive about next season. It is all very close between the top teams.

Injuries to Walcott and Ramsey in particular, Giroud not being good enough against the top clubs and piss poor tactics against our rivals are what have cost us this season.

For me, what needs addressing the summer is our approach to playing our rivals, we've been undone too many times for it not to change. Also in terms of squad strengthening, a striker/attacking winger and a defensive midfielder are essential.

what have you done with the real Piskie. ?

Well if you actually read my comments, instead of responding with your assumptions about what you think I've said, then this wouldn't really come as a surprise to you.

Just sayin' ...

so lets get this straight .......

Giroud isnt good enough .

Arsenes tactics are piss poor.

finally we are making progress with your condition .

Recognising the condition is the first step.

:cheesy::cheesy:

Time for you to face facts. Check my comments and you'll see that I've consistently said that Giroud is not good enough against the top teams.

I agree with your assessment of the situation as far as what needs doing, but after the injuries, I think we could have played any tactics we liked with Messi in the team and we wouldn't have won against the top teams.

Have to disagree about the tactics. Look at Palace, they went to Everton a couple of weeks after we lost 3-0 and came away with a 2-3 win, because they played a defensive game and hit them on the counter. Same with Sunderland at Chelsea and to an extent classic Mourinho at Anfield yesterday.

In fact in the post match interview Chelsea players said it was their game plan to deny Liverpool any chances in the first twenty minutes because they knew how quickly Liverpool started in games. I love the fact that we play open and expansive football and when it works we play some of the most attractive football going, but sometimes you just have to shut up shop and deny the opposition any chance to get their noses in front.

We did it against Spurs away. We scored early and spent the rest of the game defending. It wasn't pretty, but we came away with the three points. Against Liverpool and Chelsea away, we were out of the game in the first twenty minutes. I think we need to go into these games in the future playing to prevent the opposition scoring early and try and either hit them on the counter and playing more of our own style of game in the second half of matches.
