Cesc not being back at Arsenal. It'll be interesting to see if there's any truth in the rumours that Cazorla wants out. If he truly wants to leave there'll be even more pressure applied.
I would have loved to have seen Cesc back at Arsenal, but I don't blame Wenger for not buying him back, especially given that we need to spend on a Striker, RB, DM and back up keeper. Would you be saying it's Wenger's fault also if we didn't get one of all of these players because we'd spent thirty million on a player that we didn't really need ?
Arsenal are in the best financial position in the league. When a world class player wants to join you, for a good price, with time left, who knows the club, you take that chance. Arsenal are rumoured to have 100m to spend. Are you honestly telling me that you can't score a striker, RB, DM and a GK for 70 million pounds? I do blame Wenger for not buying him. He's in charge of transfers. Arsenal have one of the worst injury records in the PL over many, many seasons, and have been particularly susceptible in midfield recently with Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby all having long-term injuries in the last few seasons. Add to that that Ozil needs both competition and support to take the pressure off, and isn't a fighter, he's a "luxury" player who plays well when Arsenal are doing well but isn't the sort to dig in and drag the team when they're not. In addition, Cazorla is rumoured to want to leave and a lack of depth arguably cost Arsenal a proper title shot last season. There's SO many reasons why signing Cesc was a good idea, which almost everyone can see except a couple of people on here, and Wenger.
Personally I would have signed him, but it would have been the heart ruling the head and I can see why there are good reasons why Wenger didn't, so I don't go in for the easy blaming option because if you look at the situation properly then Fabregas was a player that we didn't need to spend 30m on.
If people want to talk about loyalty, what loyalty did Fabregas show when he went on strike to force his move to Barcelona in 2011 ?
I don't understand the fuss... Fabregas is going nowhere and we can buy him after the world cup. No players ever move during the world cup so he'll be a barca player for a while yet...
No-one mentioned loyalty. "Cesc didn’t leave for more money like Nasri, Adebayor or Hleb. He didn’t demand salary increases or give ultimatums like Alex Song. And he certainly didn’t stoop to the momentous lows of the Dutch wasteman. We celebrate Thierry Henry as one of Arsenal’s best ever players, and rightly so. Yet the summer before he left, Henry collected a huge £5 million loyalty bonus for signing a new contract. One very mediocre season later he was gone, citing his reasoning that he wasn’t willing to wait for Arsenal to develop, and he wanted to join the best team in the world. Is what he did any worse than what Cesc did? As fans we’re a tribal breed, and it’s hard to be objective. But if you’re one of the most talented players in the world, would you rather play alongside Denilson and a very raw Alex Song, or play alongside Xavi and Iniesta? Then throw into the mix that your hometown club, the team you support, is also the best team in the world, who are managed by your footballing idol. To further entice you, you know the entire team from international duty, where you have won every trophy available to you. For me it’s a miracle that Cesc stayed at Arsenal as long as he did." That's a quote from a LadyArse article. Sums it up well for me. Henry a seen as a legend while certain, extremely selective people, like to vilify Cesc. Yes he left, for a multitude of good reasons, and he went to a better team. But while you bring it up, here's a direct quote from the one and only Arsene Wenger, who we all know doesn't lie: "Cesc is not on strike." So that settles it.
Cesc, Nasri, Henry didn't owe Arsenal any loyalty. The one that did was Judas and his move hurt the most
Arsenal's financial position is incredible. Debt of around £220m but with cash reserves of approx £120m, and since those numbers (they are approximate and from memory) were compiled we've secured improved stadium naming rights sponsorship, increased kit deal and the additional Sky TV money, so income per year must be around £60m up whilst our repayments I think are around £20m a year, our financial position is only getting stronger. I have huge respect for what AW has done to turn the club into a stable world class brand, but where he falls short is assessing the value of a player, he just doesn't believe that players are worth £30m, £40m etc, Ozil exempt. I still say a decent striker would have won us the league last season, maybe Demba Ba wasn't the answer but he would have been upgrade on no-one, we failed to sign him because AW refused to pay £3m to Chelsea for the loan. This Summer we're hearing that Cesc wasn't re-signed because AW refuses to sign 2 players for £30m or more. The reality is, on the assumption we want to be competitive and win things, if you need two quality players and they cost £60m then you sign the cheques - we have the money. I don't mind if the strategy is to compete but not win trophies and giving in to the chequebook bully clubs, but if that's the case then the needs communicate that. All that said, I am starting to think that FFP will work and we will be on a par with Utd, City and Chelsea in years to come. Strong rumours Cavani could join us, PSG about to spend ridiculous money on Luiz on the back of FFOP penalties, they have to sell to balance the books. We could actually see transfer fees dropping....
If i remember correctly our financial position has not been as good as some people think, over the last 5 or 6 years we have made some pretty big profits, but most of that has been because of player's sales, without them we would actually have made a loss on a number of those years. But people always just look at the raw numbers and think we have a mountain of cash, I'm no financial expert but i doubt all that supposed money is just sitting in the bank ready to be used? Maybe someone who works in finance ect could give their opinion on the supposed money in the bank.
I think you're right, but the key area to focus on now is the increased annual income from sponsorship and TV deals, and if this does equate to an additional £60m a year then our position is incredibly strong. Our debt repayments are fixed at £20m a year I think and won't change until the loan has been repaid in full
Don't want Reina. Arsenal need a tall, commanding centre back who will come and claim crosses because the team (Merts aside) generally lacks height. That isn't Reina. He's a good shot stopped but absolutely not commanding of his penalty area.
Tu chez!! Note to self, make more sense in future. Don't want Reina. Arsenal need a tall, commanding goalkeeper who will come and claim crosses because the team (Merts aside) generally lacks height. That isn't Reina. He's a good shot stopper but absolutely not commanding of his penalty area.
I am surprised that we didn't pick up Fabregas, but I read an article that was opinion from several Spanish coaches that said that apparently Fabregas is not interested nor capable of playing a "Pivot" role in a standard 4-2-3-1. If that is the case, then with Cazorla, Ozil, Wilshere and Ramsey all at their best in the #10 spot, even if they are more versatile, would he get a game?
