3rd eye, just thought. What is it that I should feel sour grapes about? The sun is shining, the Saints are great........... This is Ben Haim tracking back....
Possum, I did start all this with a sort of proviso. So we lost. Whatever...we move on. Thanks for the support Ian. I've been giving my words of wisdom on here and 606 since 2007 Poss. I'll continue to do so- when I choose to.
Like most teams in the relegation spots come the final stages of the season, we failed to take advantage of chances up front and fell asleep at the back. We should have scored but they could have scored more. Birmingham gave us hope but Saturday brought us back down to earth. We can still stay up if we can repeat the performances against Birmingham and Bristol but not if we leave gaping holes in defence like we did on Saturday.
While the result against Birmingham was welcome relief, the fact of the matter is that either side of that match we've had two "Six-Pointers" and picked up just a single point.
you can look at it that way but if you look at the bigger picture i had us down as 6 points from bristol and coventry and nothing from brum or hull so we are a point up on where i thought we would be. I can see a realistic 12 points for the taking from the remaining games and thats allowing nothing from the odd ball that we know as the south coast derby. if (its a big if i know) we can get those 12 points i can see us being above or at least level with bristol on points and as it stands we have the second best goal difference in the bottom half certainly allot better then the teams immediately around us. I can't help but feel that even if we do pull through and mange to beat the drop that the league will have a further reduction of some kind lined up for us as a plan b.
It's a matter of finding consistancy to last the season now. If we can perform like we did against Hull in every game then we have a chance of surviving but if we keep up the habit of playing well one game and poorly the next then relegation becons. I cant help thinking that it will come down to the Southampton game, that fate is drawng us to that. We'll either get at least a point and stay up or they'll thrash us and we'll be down.
From what I can see your problem has been having someone to score regularly. With your team gelling with the new recruits I still feel you can pull of the escape.
