Elmo plays a specific role for us that not too many players could do, his attributes are perfectly suited for it, maybe what he lacks defensively shows if played at RB and what he lacks attacking wise again show at RM/RW, Im sure he could play either of these positions well in the championship but possibly not quite as good as what sunderland already have, but i suspect if they adopted our formation he would be good enough for them.
I don't know if you're confusing it with the Rangers contract he had. He'd signed for Rangers the year before he joined us on a contract that ended that summer, but Rangers had the option to extend it for another 2 years if they wanted to. Part of the dispute over his contractual status with them is about whether or not Rangers were in a position to activate that extension or not. (the other part from Aluko's side is the same as the other 66 players who are saying Rangers didn't handle the transfer from oldco to newco correctly)
Not this summer he isn't. But i would expect Bruce to extend his contract by at least a year during the summer to the summer of 2015.
