I'm a Leave voter only I couldn't vote as I wasn't on the list at the polling station having recently moved even though I filled in the Register of Electors form and sent it back six weeks ago... Would have voted Leave but wasn't expecting Leave to win.
I know people in similar situations, who also couldn't vote and would have voted leave. And yes, exactly I wasn't expecting us to win, personally and I genuinely mean this, I think the remain voters shot themselves in the foot, the first rule of politics is not to insult the opposition, because undecided will tip the balance in the favour of those abused. The undecided were there for the remain taking but basically they ****ed it up and with South Wales the referendum came at the wrong time in light of the Steel Mill problems, Port Talbot is desperate enough on the employment front without that **** happening.
The reason Leave won is that the rest of the EU point blank refused to discuss change. This was the only avenue left to vote for change.
I was never going to change my mind from being leave, but as with all political campaigns they had opportunity to attempt to change my mind, but the racist comments, and being accused of being a Farage supporter made me more steadfast.
No one likes being told what to do and think and that's what the likes of the Guardian and the BBC have been doing.
Was Cameron not involved in talks recently and got reform? I've hardly took any notice tbh as I didn't in a million years think it would be an out vote.
There are many reasons why Brexit won: - naked racism - blaming your own failures on others (mostly immigrants) - false promises made by the Leave side (£350m for the NHS etc.) - ignorance - stupidity - believing that the Sun, Daily Mail etc. actually gives a **** about the people of Britain as opposed to meaning their owners wield more power if the UK is outside the EU (there's a reason why Murdoch owns newspapers in the UK and America) - nostalgia for a romanticised UK that has never actually existed but somehow will be recreated by a Conservative Party led by a man (Boris) who used to set fire to 50 pound notes and wave them in homeless people's faces - giving the political establishment a "bloody nose" only to have left the country on its knees, bleeding profusely and being read the last rights - but mostly naked racism
He got **** all, a few token scraps that the EU could veto anyway. Think that was the point that swung me from the fence to Leave.
