Interesting question. It comes down to the context for me. In our context of having not won a domestic league title for 30 years I have to go with the PL. They're both important to any top team of course and to me carry very similar prestige with some obvious key points of separation. If we'd won a league title or two in any of those 30 years rather than just being in the mix and hadn't won a CL for 15 years (i.e. having still won that in 2005) then I'd likely have said the CL instead. If we hadn't won the CL last year and were still on track possibly to win that and/or the PL this time, then I could easily have said that over the league this time round, not sure how I'd be feeling really in that scenario, probably PL would edge it, but it's hard to say
I like that moment of euphoria when you cross the line. As great as winning the PL is, it's been won for months and with lockdown, became a bit of a anti-climax. Not a patch on Istanbul imo. However, on the final day of last season, there was a point when we were winning and Man City were losing, the excitement was there then and I'm sure that would have surpassed Istanbul had it materialised.
Good responses! Was thinking about it earlier and I really don't know now. As others have mentioned, we were all desperate to win the PL so that was number 1 priority for us. But now that we've done, which one do I get more excitement out? Not sure if being in lockdown impacted it, but I remember the feeling after we won CL and it's unrivalled.
I think I would always say the league because it takes so much consistent effort. Unless there's a moment like last season when we could have won it on the last day while both contenders were still in play, it's not going to be a feeling of elation. Cup finals, on the other hand, are where the feelings of excitement tend to be, if you're talking about which of the two is more exciting. They have more memories attached to them imo such as how you got to the venue (if you were there) or if you weren't there you remember the weather, the weekend or something else happening around the time. There are definite, defined moments. Winning the league isn't 'instant' like that. Obviously this one for us is epic because of the context. We are very lucky to have had the experiences of winning everything in order to even be considering which is better.
Definitely two scenarios. Highest rank trophy versus excitement. PL will always be the former but any competition could be the latter
I've always liked the CL trophy and I like it even more since watching VVD play a kind of basketball game with it. Every time I see it now I will be thinking - Virgil Van Dijk's socks have been in that
UEFA final against Alaves was amazing for me for a whole heap of reasons as was Gary Mcd goal against Everton that season
