Did the camera settle on Kempes? BBC commentator didn't seem to know who he was...An excellent player who led Argentina to the 1978 WC win....But what can you say about Messi? What a player he has been. The best ever and no mistake. I was hoping the commentator was going to say. 'Just look at his face' Barry Davies style. The grin on his boat was from ear to ear...
Certainly one of, but different times, Pele, Socrates, Zico, Kempes, Puskas, Eusabio, Zidane, Cruyff, there's so many over the years that have graced the world Cup, each excellent in their own time.

Pele, Socrates, Zico, Kempes, Puskas, Eusabio, Zidane, Cruyff. Thats some backbone of a top side, add in say Franco Barsei, Paulo Maldini and a top goalkeeper and no team would beat that XI. Though I might find a place for Maradona and Iniesta

Can't really compare players in different eras. Maradona was at his peak in a time when defenders could still legally commit gbh.

86 he ran the show. We always go on about the goals against England but what about his brace against Belgium in the semi's. Class goals.

Maradona was more entertaining for me and ultimately that's what it's all about.

First world Cup i recall was 1970 and 'that' Brazil team, dont think I've ever seen a team like them since, just pure quality all over the pitch.
