Got up at 3am. Missed the 1st half i.e. most of the action. 2nd bit of an anti climax. US look good, but lets be fair Paraguay were hardly likely to test them in their own backyard.. Aussie and Turkey will provide far stiffer opposition. But US should make the playoffs. Last 16, then out.

I can see Turkey just edging Aussie tomorrow morning.

Stats on making the playoffs, based on previous tournaments (adjusted for number of teams, obvs):

  • 5+ Points (Guaranteed): Finishing with at least 5 points (one win, two draws or better) ensures a top-two finish or a premium third-place record.

  • 4 Points (99.5% Safe): Historically and through statistical simulations, finishing with 4 points (usually one win, one draw, one loss) makes it incredibly rare to be eliminated.

  • 3 Points (55% Chance - The Bubble): Obtaining 3 points (usually one win, two losses) places a team completely on the cutoff line. If a team finishes on 3 points, their survival depends heavily on goal difference. A pair GD usually allows progress, whereas a difference of -2 or worse heavily risks elimination.

  • 2 Points or Less (Eliminated): Finishing with two draws or worse leaves a team with almost zero mathematical chance of taking one of the eight wildcard slots.

One thing i very much liked with the var is

The ref booked ream for a foul, from his angle it looked it
But var clearly showed zero contact and almiron dived

Ref watched the vid
Revoked reams booking
And booked almiron rightly so

And when two bookings in the group stage get you a suspension, plus if ream did a later yellow card offence, he could have been sent off
Its a big deal

And great use of var
And glad its used like this

It's their party they can do as they like...
tbf....I think you'll find it is not only them....Half of Canada ran on. Nearly all of Seoul ran on when they scored.

Marathan tonight...
Qatar v Swiss
Brazil v Morocco
Jocks v Hatie
Aussie v Turkey

Going for a whole night bender. Sleep most of the day tomorrow. And I said I wasn't all that interested. I guess I was kidding myself.

this young keeper for the Aussies looks very decent. You seen much of him syd? I don’t watch the A league.
Hell of a result for the Aussies. Hardly anything mentioned pre game around the country. I guarantee it will be everywhere tomorrow. Aussies are the biggest fair weather fans in the world for any sport, but once they get behind their teams they really get into it.

Yeah I've seen him a bit, he's at Melbourne city which is part of the man city group so I'm sure they'll sort him out with a move somewhere.
