It’s the boundaries of the job it does.

Their first would never had occurred had the right decision been reached. Free kick to Croatia & Greaseman booked for diving. After that it’s a different game. France may well have gone on to win 4-1 but we'll never know because VAR is ****.

Deffo never a pen. Although there needs to be clarification on FIFA’s interpretation of the word “deliberate” as, to them, it appears to have a different meaning to that if the dictionary.

Dunno about the dive ben. I'm pissed but to me it was clear as day a handball.

Blatter, in 2015, revealed that an agreement to give Russia the tournament was in place before the vote took place.

Maybe you weren’t allowed to read it although it was Tass he revealed it to.

    Bullshit.

France may well have been the best team but they won the final because VAR failed.

    A ****? Behave.

I’m not disputing that they were the best team. The fact is they won the game because VAR failed & not because they scored 4 fair & legitimate goals.

    Nah.

    I agree it wasn't a penalty.

    I agree Griezman dived too.

It's not VARs fault though, it's the refs.

VAR has stopped a few dodgy decisions, but not all of them.

If owt, those that hate VAR should be happy the ref can still make mistakes.

Overall VARs had a good impact, it's righted wrongs. Not all wrongs, but a fair few.

Wasn't a bad game, France are worthy winners, all credit to them. It's been a cracking World Cup over all. Russians put on a good tournament. Little to no trouble. Grounds in good nick. England surpassed everyone expectations. England way surpassed any Jocks hopes, and they're still bitter about it. The worlds supposed best players, well, weren't. Annoying the next media ****fest will be Mbappe, but, whatever. Media are ****s regardless.

Good job all round I'd say.

I can only judged on fairness and the best team won in the end.
I'm not even sure France ever had to use top gear that much from what I saw.
I must admit I didn't really see many group games though!!

i've read that interview (link is below), it was discussed a lot in Russia, but it's about Qatar and France secret agreement mostly. Things in FIFA gone wrong way not like it was agreed, but that stuff is not about russian bid really. Somehow Qatar outpowered USA bid.

If he dived & they scored from the free kick he got for cheating, & it wasn’t a penalty, then the biggest game in World Football has been decided because the system put in place to alleviate refereeing errors has failed. That’s not good any day of the week.

For the pen the ref called it right but was subsequently pressurised into changing his mind because VAR asked him to look again.

VAR adds nothing positive, it’s exclusive & doesn't include important decisions.

It unnecessarily holds up games & stops the match whilst it’s in play to check decisions.

Next season teams playing FA Cup games at PL grounds will have an unfair advantage / disadvantage over those playing at other grounds because of the introduction of VAR.

The stats released by FIFA on it’s success are bollocks.

    VAR is ****.

Maybe your “free press” missed the bit about Russia.

EDIT: Maybe you just skimmed over this bit.

“There had been a “gentleman’s agreement”, he tells me, among Fifa’s leaders that the 2018 and 2022 competitions would go to the “two superpowers” Russia and the US;”

    I am not against VAR.

However, there is not a chance that is deliberate handball. A player can not process the fact to move his hand down towards the ball then do it in less than 0.05 seconds. Let's say he can three is no way the referee can say that is deliberate. If that is the case I expect to see an extra 20 to 25 penalties in the PL this season. Griezmann dived and should have got a yellow.

Did France deserve to win the world Cup? Probably.

If France don't get that first goal due to a dive does the whole game change? Yes.

Stop altering the facts to fit your agendas whether that's for or against VAR or because you think France deserved to win the tournament (I think they did).

Look at it logically Griezmann is booked for diving and the game remains 0-0 the whole game changed and literally none of us can predict the outcome as it is a complete parallel universe. The old sci-fi films are right change one tiny thing and that changes anged the whole of time.

Uh-oh...i thought at first that Financial times is a russian free press propaganda tool too..

Yes. He told that. And what if it's true? Anyway exactly every big world event is some kind of agreements between biggest and richest countries. Such is life and politics.
I got it like USA decided to focus on 2022-bid. But they failed to win later due some other secret agreements.
    Someone supports someone. Someone don't.

Getting back to the start of our discussion. What exactly is unfair about russian bid?

Do you not understand the implications of FIFA leaders having an agreement that the WC would be in Russia before the governing bodies around the world voted on the decision? It means the vote was pointless as the result was pre-determined. His surprise was that the US was not pulled out but Qatar for 2022.

Russia bribed the leaders of FIFA, as did Qatar.
