Pullis didn't stop cajoling & instructing his team last night, .they're work rate exceeded ours and pressed in numbers .He's not my sort of manager but then he gets results and can get a misfiring team into some sort of cohesive unit which was more than evident.

The P.L. has a quite a few Managers who many dismiss out of hand,mostly through a conceived lack of glamour,rather than their managerial skills.
Pulis,Allardyce,Hughes,e.g.,and all are showing Monk up for the paucity of his abilities.
However,since Monk didn't employ himself ....

If The Swans' get within,say,two points of the relegation zone,what then? Laudrup time? Well,it wouldn't be the first time.

I think most clubs work harder than us. I believe if we actually put the effort in a Burnley, Leicester put in to games and coupled with our better quality we would be further up the league. We just seem to be apathetic and have been for an awful long time. Can Gm get them going, it doesn't seem so.

The frustration was watching how slow we were in passing and moving the ball , we were fine moving from left to right etc. but going forward we looked ponderous and lacking imagination ,no overlapping by either full back except when it was too late meant Montero and Dyer were isolated with the only option to play the ball back ,no confidence to strike the ball shows the very limited opportunities created . We may have "better" quality but it's not apparent at the moment and if Monk is starting to lose his way (Shelveys reaction) with players then we're in for an interesting time with 13 or so games to go .

While he didn't produce the contract, I think quite a few would question how much he did to gain the position!

What I find difficult to understand is our use of Montero. In Montero we have a bona fide winger at this level that can fake a FB out of his boots and find a way around him. Yet ... we make no concerted effort to get him in the game as much as possible. In fact instead of seeking him out and just give him the ball with a simple pass and let him do his stuff, we'll often reverse ourselves and switch back over to the other side. When Montero has the ball, Taylor - if he can catch up - seeks to overlap on the outside and steal the space that Montero could exploit. Monty's only choice then is to cut inside on his off foot. This happened so many times against WBA, I almost threw something at the tv. Montero doesn't need to receive the ball in oceans of space and setup. He has the ability to receive the ball standing still and tightly marked and still make something happen. I find it maddening.

Yankee - you ask very good questions of our use of Montero but I doubt there is a straight forward solution.
Although I would have given Taylor our MoM last night he is still well short of what we gave away.
Full backs aren't encouraged to attack
Mid field is often non existent so Montero has to wait for support / foil for his moves
When he does cross there is no target or just one one in the area with several defenders and a goalkeeper
Shelvey offers nothing to Montero and again last night offered little to the team
Montero seems to be at his best with ball coming to his feet - we have employed a long ball strategy
Unlike our strategy of leaving the left back space empty for Taylor to stand next to Ash opponents tend have the space ahead of Montero covered so it's easy for a second defender to join in or cover. Given our powder puff attack teams will put three players on one of ours, especially if he's isolated.
Montero is easy to read - he may get the better of the full back but with the ball almost always coming to him along the touch touch line defenders can predict what he will do - his success lies in his ability to do what he does better than the defender does what he is supposed to do.

TBH I've not felt this frustrated by our performances since Kenny Jackett's 3rd season.

Another second half season performance from our team that was the usual story under Laudrop, so nothing new at all, and when we are 2 points from relegation as we were under Laudrop then you can shout your mouth off, but until then stick a sock in it, as nothing else you say constitutes any value. We may regret keeping hold of Gomis, I'll give him another game or two, but after that I think he has had it, really hope he fires up, but really do have my doubts after last night, and I cannot understand Monk playing Routledge either, he has been poor all season, and it was asking for trouble with him in the mix. Taylor has come in for some criticism this season from some on here, and last night he showed why, he really needs to stop backing away, our defending was garbage, and with little threat up front, it's no wonder we got turned over by a poor WBA..............



PS Gomis goal threat is like the Vetchtables menstruating rambles on here!.........

Toss. Why have you brought up Laudrup? Our performances don't have to be compared with any previous manager to see we are gradually but inextricably getting worse. Monk needs help. Few have ever suggested he should be sacked but more and more are seeing through his puff. No one wants Monk to fail because that would mean relegation as the board will stick by him no matter what.
Only in August have we gained more than half points on offer and were it not for that flying start we really would be battling relegation already.

Shelvey and the team are like microcosm & macrocosm of each other. Occasional flashes of genius overwhelmingly outweighed by dross.

In all fairness even an experienced manager in Bruce who was struggling, so what does he do swallows his pride and brings in a good motivator and first class coach in Mike Phelan, what has happened to them, their performances have really improved. We don't have to sack monk to improve, just bring in someone who has the experience, who can guide monk and at the moment the team as well, be a good man manager and motivator, nearly all top managers have them. Surely the board can see we need this.

we lost a game AWAY against a team showing a bit of form....Big deal....We had 65% of the ball that tells you we were the better team and the only problem we have is we dont have anyone to put the ball in the back of the net now bony has gone. Talk about over exaggerating our poor form is laughable as you know fully well the problem. We could be 2 points from relegation where i would be shouting for monks head but we are miles ahead of that on 34 yes 34 points with a good team as 65% of the game tells you but without a striker....If we fix that then what will you have to moan about then. If you dont understand football and cant see the only problem we have then fair enough its not your fault but those of us who do understand our problem ATM will just have to listen to the crap being spouted that we are a bad team on 34 points and in the top half of the table in 9th...

This imo is our biggest failing and one which if anyone cares to research my posts is something myself and few others have advocated since his appointment , but suppose to have a reasonable opinion must mean we're Monk haters .Phelan kept Fergusson last years in charge more comfortable than they could have been and Phelans' removal by Moyes was one of the biggest factors in Moyes being a failure . A failed U21 manager and a coach brought in to shake up the youth Academy doesn't exactly instil confidence.

It was 65% where we had more of a chance of scoring if we had a striker...WBA only had 37% but they managed 2 goals...

So we are still a bad team when we win... Monk cant win either way with some of you. Im so glad he will be with us for a good while yet as management and sensible fans at the club recognize what a great job he is doing..It makes some of you look right idiots that dont have a clue about football..

yes we were , we didn't play to our strengths and we're more concerned about the opposition which is affecting us badly. Last night we so timid in our approach play that anyone with a modicum sense could see what was going to happen , too rigid too slow and afraid of what they would do to us ,how many times did Naughton get up with Dyer in the ist half not once hence his total isolation .We have wingers with pace but they're not being utilised .

We are stuck with gomis and monk may not for all we know have a choice but to play him. Gomis is not the first or will be the last to struggle finding the goals we need but thats not monks fault. If i had my way i would send him to the reserves until he improves but i doubt very much with the amount we pay him that the board will allow that. Its a big problem for us atm but not a serious problem that we are in trouble of going down or anything. Monk has little choice than to keep on playing him with the hope he starts to find the net.....
