Big difference is everyone knew that one day Ronaldo would be sold to Real. There is no substance to this Rooney story at all. Just the media stirring things up. Yeah he could be sold at the end of next season or the year after. Big deal, every player has their price but the current stories are imo balls.
He's got 2 years left on his contract, which means a contract extension will be in the works in the next 6-12 months or so if we don't want to run the risk of losing him on a free. Letting his contract get into his final year is a dangerous game and one that we don't usually play, we aren't Arsenal after all. Age wise, at 29, he'd still be in his "prime" (although I think that's already passed) so would be unlikely to take a pay-cut, not when there'd be no shortage of clubs willing to at least match his current wages. Not sure we'd be willing to invest as much as we currently are for a player who would quickly be approaching their 30's and what looks like their best days behind them.
I always thought it was, Ferguson likes to occasionally keep Rooney in line but Rooney also takes it. When has he ever spat the dummy at being dropped? Not the other **** which wasn't about that, being dropepd? Never. He just cracks on with it and I really can't see how he'd go anywhere else, he's a northern scrote at the end of the day and Madrid, Paris and Barcelona would not suit hm, Manchester does. The press are ****ing idiots, they take great pleasure in attempting to undermine our clubs and national team so they can slate them when something goes wrong.
Selling Rooney at 29ish in a few years time is completely different to selling him now after one match when there is no evidence of any bust up and its all crap created by the media.
He'll be 29 when his contract is up and can go somewhere for nothing. Unless he'd be willing to take a cut in his wages, something I don't think he would do, then I can't see us offering him another contract. And if it comes to that then Fergie will sell rather than lose him for nothing.
He'll probably get a new contract before then tbh. But nevertheless all this talk was based on nothing.
When I saw Rooney was on the bench I just thought it was smart, Madrid would be expecting Rooney to start, so may have prepared to have him as a main threat from the beginning. Having a fresh Rooney ready to come on in the second half to terrorise Madrid seemed a good tactical idea. Obviously ruined by the sending off, but I think people are reading too much into the whole situation. Apparently it sells papers!
