You have just paid 37 million for someone equal to his ability in Mata, and then play him out of position to accommodate Rooney. That 30 odd million he'd fetch could then be used in more pressing areas of the pitch i.e every other area barring the goalie. Fellaini = panic last day of the window buy. Spent more than his buy out was. Mata = good player but not needed if you were keeping Rooney Rooney = far too high in wages and not needed as much now Mata there. Are you really going to trust Moyes with 100 million in the summer?

Mata can play both at wing and as AM, just like hazard or silva .. he played in chelsea and spain in the wing alot but sure he is not a direct fashion winger beside Mata is totally different player than Rooney.. and he is not direct winger like Valenica and stop thinking like a dinosaur, in modern football players keep swapping positions Rooney and Mata complement each others, hard work of rooney will give Mata more freedom to move around beside you failed to reply to my QS, do you want us to sell him to a rival like Arsenal did with RVP? and do you have any good players with same attributes that will cost less?
Don't forget I've seen Mata first hand for over 2 years. He is a brilliant number 10 but an average wide player. Players do inter-change a bit but United play with width (or so the stats against Fulham would imply!!) and Mata is not the sort of person who will impact a game that much from wide areas, especially for 37 million. Mata is the luxury player a team doing well can afford, but when you are struggling and have many areas of weakness over the pitch, it wasn't the best piece of business; especially if it was always the intention to keep Rooney. Mata and Rooney are slightly different players but the main issue is that when everyone is fit, both would want to play at number 10 but cant. Ideally you don't sell to a rival but we sold you Mata so sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture.
