But for every 10,000 new homes to be built, the sector needs about 30,000 new recruits across 12 trades, according to the HBF, the trade body for the house building industry in England and Wales.

Based on the government's plans, the estimated number of new workers required for some common trades, for example, would be:

    20,000 bricklayers
    2,400 plumbers
    8,000 carpenters
    3,200 plasterers
    20,000 groundworkers
    1,200 tilers
    2,400 electricians
    2,400 roofers
    480 engineers

When asked if there were enough workers currently to build the extra homes, David Thomas, chief executive of Barratt Redrow, said: "The short answer is no."

    Good
Personally I don’t want the green belt concreted over and I don’t want houses built for illegals either
We should look to be decreasing the already bloated population
If we’re building houses do it on brownfield sites and make it social housing for all those British people who are continually playing second fiddle to foreigners

this is not going to happen because the present government is help bent on attacking the population that cant fight back in their eyes. The majority of councils are I believe are Labour and will be faced with the Harmer hammer if they do not comply!!!
Already been told that if they dont then whitehall will step in and give permission.

[ again this is flatline info .. given that permission will be easily given land owners and speculators will bump up the price so houses built will cost more! ]

be careful what you say it can come back and bite you!!!

The Prime Minister insisted it is not his “plan” to clobber Brits with more rises. But he pointed to the pandemic and the Ukraine war as examples of unexpected global events that could force him to change course. Taxes were hiked by £40 billion at the Budget in October, with the lion’s share coming from a £25 billion decision to increase employer national insurance contributions.
Amazing isnt it ... took him 6 month's [ and an awful lot of EYES closed people do not accept this as a reason for everything from Jan 2020 up to April 2024 ] to actually see what the major problem was with the last 4 years [ which if they had never happened the UK would be at least £1,000,000,000,000 better off ] and Boris would likely be in charge and illegals down 100's not 1000's ]

that is the crux of the matter .. the opposition kemi /lib/dems/snp/ reform/ all ought to do their sums THE 3 MAIN FINANCIAL institutions have all POOO POOO'ED the £22billion hole as fake more like £9bn your article above Didnt mention the extra money to rail and doctors... so really if they didnt say it then the £70bn is closer to £76bn £76,000,000,000

if didnt pay the rail then people would adopt other transport! carshare underground buses even bikes in summer!

didnt pay the doctors then ........... "and here we have it" ....................they would strike and the waiting lists get longer .. so thats where the £1.5bn pensioners money went to! towards that!!!!! AND HARMER couldnt put up with one of his main ideas being interferred with ..........................

Chocolate maker Cadbury has been dropped from the list of royal warrants for the first time in 170 years.

The Birmingham-based chocolatier was awarded its first royal warrant as chocolate and cocoa manufacturers by Queen Victoria in 1854, but it has lost its royal endorsement under King Charles.

Cadbury's US owners, Mondelez International, said it was disappointed to have been stripped of its warrant.

The King has granted royal warrants, external to 386 companies that previously held warrants from Queen Elizabeth II, including John Lewis, Heinz and Nestle.

Companies holding the Royal Warrant of Appointment, granted for up to five years, are recognised for providing goods or services to the monarchy.

Among the King's new list of warrant holders are many firms selling food and drink, such as Moet and Chandon, Weetabix and chocolate makers Bendicks and Prestat Ltd.

I did a 2 year nights job at Keynsham around 2000 -2003 [ whilst getting courier business up and running ] and it was ingrained in us that quality was paramount and no skipping on the ingredients. They were proud of the cocoa % in their chocolate being second only small "family type " concerns that marketed specific "luxury priced higher %'s. They got took over by a "Swiss?" equity company, who stripped out some bits .. like Keynsham site and lowered cost of production at expense of lower quality INGREDIENTS or %'s then sold out to USA company that continued the same.
I will eat Cadbury products if some one buys them but will not give them a penny of my hard earned cash.. since 2007.
some of the cheaper supermarket own brands are better than CADBURY'S on content and thus flavour..................

    facts and figures......!!!

Thousands of migrants are currently massing along the northern coast of France, preparing to cross to the UK on Christmas day.
GB News has filmed exclusive images of many hundreds of migrants around one makeshift camp near Dunkirk.
This channel's producer saw hundreds more along the main roads around Dunkirk.
Sources have told GB News that thousands have gathered in multiple locations along a 50-mile stretch of coast from Dunkirk, past Calais and down towards Boulogne.

Migrants queing to cross Channel on Christmas Day© GB News
They are waiting for an improvement in weather conditions which is expected late tonight and into Christmas day.
Strong winds in the English Channel have prevented small boats from crossing for more than a week.
UK and French authorities are preparing for a run of better conditions over the next five days, which could see more than two thousand migrants cross into UK waters.

I did mention this about 10 -14 days ago .........

At least 150,000 have come here illegally since records began in 2018
That’s the population of Blackpool !

The actual total of illegals is probably 500,000 or a large proportion of Greater Bristol

Successive governments have done nothing about it which is why Reform are doing well at the moment because they are the only party to offer real hope of really stopping it

The thing is they don’t offer any hope of stopping it. They fool people into thinking they do, that’s not the same.

But whatever Reform offer, whether that’s making the UK unappealing to reach in terms of not pandering to thousands of fit young men of fighting age who rock up here and get treated far better than many of our own people, or physically stopping the small boats mid channel we simply can’t carry on like this

40,000 people are on terror watch in this country, and we’ve allowed it to happen under the mainstream parties and have allowed thousands of those to settle here

One thing is certain, neither Labour or the Tories are effective at dealing with it so millions and millions more will vote Reform next time in the hope that they will sort it out and have the guts to actually make it happen

they will not be a welcoming committee ... and will not be playing softball with the French and trying to reverse Brexit
THEY OVER CROWD THE BOATS WHICH MAKE THEM DANGEROUS so we take them off the boats to save them drowning if we tried to tow them or turn them round. in past couple of days over 100 or more have not made it because of faults with the inflatables or engines the ones who didnt get off still attempted the trip ... think on 24th it was 4 boats in difficulty made it to british waters and then allowed for them to be taken of the ailing boat!!!!!

Even if that worked…. Debatable, it’s still only a very small % of immigration figures, 3% from memory. The rest is legal (97%).

Whilst I’m not Tory’s greatest fan, unlike many I don’t hate people that have opposing political views to me, and believe being as how it’s been in every one of their recent manifesto’s to reduce numbers, (to 10’s of thousands wasn’t it in one of them?), it’s obvious not an east thing to do. If we just stopped them altogether our economy would suffer and we wouldn’t have enough workers. Etc.

What Farage says is populist but just not practical. They’re a pressure group, not a political party, imo

Ashton there is some confusion in your reasoning you are 2 things mixed up its like chalk and cheese or city and rovers 2 distinct entities .... they are ..............

    1) migration documented
    2) illegal undocumented [ boat or other ] immigrants

I think the rough figure from ONS was 900, 000 pre July of which some 750,000 were the result of "legal loopholes" being flooded by friends and family!! being granted a temporary stay with the singular person who had the original "right to be here for job/ student" that was the only 2 reasons anyone got a "ticket .. with expiry date! " one caveat to this rule was Hong kong/ Afghanistan..

The illegals since 2018 boats only! total some 150,000 thats a lot of boats ... it does not include lorries cars vans or small craft dropping off and retreating [ one estimate of those figures was around 15,000, I think was from article I read yonks ago maybe Jan/Feb 2024, stated likely to far more than ! ]

WHAT YOU CALL "legal" @97% is incorrect I believe as stated "loophole people" came under "be with my child at uni whilst here" but then attempts to stay and a % of these are people whose "relative/child/sibling dropped out of UNI"
Again I think I saw a report "families with a drop out accounted for some 36,000 people being here who should have gone home add to this those finishing their course with families in tow that didnt/ wouldnt leave was a similar figure
its a mish mash of a mine field! i looked at ONS document ... and dont have a week to read it through once let alone re read a few 100 statements of "fact"

72 years ago what a day in the week that was.........................

On 30 December 1952, a double-decker bus drove on to Tower Bridge on its usual route between Shoreditch and Dulwich.

It was late in the evening, dark and the temperature had dipped below freezing.

It was a couple of weeks after the great smog had brought London to a standstill, and although that particularly foul miasma had dispersed, smog still regularly reduced visibility.

The traffic lights were green, there was no ringing of a warning hand-bell.

Albert Gunter, the driver, travelling at a steady 12mph (19km/h), proceeded on to the bridge.

Then he noticed the road in front of him seemed to be falling away.

He, his bus, its 20 passengers and one conductor were on the edge of the southern bascule - a movable section of road - which was continuing to rise.

It was too late to go back, too late to stop.

So the former wartime tank-driver dropped down two gears, and slammed his foot on the accelerator.

As a reward from London Transport, Mr Gunter was given £10 (the equivalent of about £350 today) and a day off.

He was awarded the cash at a ceremony, and when asked what he would do with the bonus, he said "five for me and five for the missus".

Mr Gunter later received a reward of £35 from the City Corporation, and a week's holiday in Bournemouth. His children were invited to the Lord Mayor's children's party.

I bet SADIQ KHAN would have had him arrested and thrown in jail ...............

The knighthood for Khan is simply a reward for absolute failure

Just one example is that knife crime in London is up by 61% since he became mayor

And that alone should have ensured common sense prevailed and he wasn’t recognised for such a dreadful statistic

The list of his other failures is also huge

    Disgusting

think about it ,, Harmer has to set a precedent reward for failure sets the bar low so it has the effect to enhance his dismal achievements he ends as a PM and becomes a lord as he is already knighted!... pity the sword didnt slip back then ....!

Just 18 per cent of Londoners voted for Khan, yet our political system and low election turnout gave him a third term to further wreck London’s prosperity and global standing.

in the vastness of space a space rock of the size of 2 double decker buses side by side is just but a microscopic speck of dust! but today 1 such rock will pass just 120,000 miles above our planet Earth. just a very small nudge from hitting something on route and we could be reporting a massive "fireball and or small crater" ..... the one yesterday just the size of a couple of transtit vans was on the flight path ..........
