Unfortunately Leonardo, yes, Nordin Wooter has indeed gone. He will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with his family.
I'm too young for the days of legends like Luther Blissett and co so I'll have to go with what I've seen first hand and that would be the legend of super danny
I don't have an ignore list Leo, but think that SLB's Dad and me could spend a happy day or two talking about the players that only we have seen.
You could, ofh. He does the Prediction League on 606, and I would love to get him to reminisce on here, he's got some great memories. He talks of the 1950 match against Man Utd. It was really full so all the kids sat at the front. I said "How on Earth did you meet up with your Dad afterwards?" "I don't know, he told me to go down the front and I don't remember how we met up afterwards." Different times. He talks of how you could get on a bus with one of the players going to the game, on they might pass you on their bicycles before or after the match . I think, I think, Dennis Uphill's wife was known to my grandmother, I'd have to confirm that. Dad's parents were very active members of the local Labour Party and John Freeman would sometimes be round at their house. Dad talks about how he was delirious with fever once and John Freeman was worried and came up to see how he was. He's been going since 1947, hence his name Shrodells47. I'll see if I can get him on here. He had a torrid time with BBC 606 when they did all that BBC ID nonsense, which turned him off forums really. I couldn't solve it. Dad eventually sorted it out, I don't know how, I had tried and tried. My mum's (breddle) account with the BBC was totally irretrievable, which is why she has posted via Dad's account for all this time. I made a complaint to the BBC about how their ridiculous actions had turned two older people away. Generic reply, quelle surprise. Why is it the BBC are apparently so keen to hear our views, texted or emailed to about every bloody programme there is, even the bloody weather forecast - you try and criticise and they show their true colours. They couldn't give a toss. The caring what we think is nothing but hot air. The long and short of it is, all the messing around with the Beeb, it might be difficult to persuade him to change again. Dad took me to my first match, we saw Luther come on as sub and he set the Vic on fire. For that reason I took my eldest son, a year ago, to see his first game in Berkhamsted. Dad me and F, three generations, all saw Luther strut his stuff again. And he was truly excellent, still got the touch, honestly. Incredibly athletic still. A great man. Dad's Dad was a Villa fan originally. That always stayed with him, but he came down from Brum in 1937 to be a printer. He went to see the local team - the Blues (yes, that's Watford, for the younger ones ) and got hooked. Then Dad went, then me, then my sisters, my Mum, my nieces. My sons haven't been yet, but the eldest may be OK for next season. Oh how I've rambled... sorry .
Thanks for that SLB, your Dad predates me by three years. I would love to talk to him about players such as Maurice Cook, Johnny Meadows, Roy Brown and Frank Mitchell. Sure he would remember them. Ollie Phillips goes back into the same era and has the advantage of a great descriptive use of the language. Some of the items he produced from his early days of reporting stir the memory even now when I come across them. He doesn't live that far away from me and he is one of the people I would have at my imaginary dinner party. Talking to Yorkie we have agreed that one day we will go and seek him out in his local bar.
Dad had a budgie called Mitch (after Frank Mitchell). Apparently it used to sit on my Grandad's head and comb the few strands of hair he had . As for Ollie, I agree about his writing. And that sounds great, re seeking him out, you really should do that .
In fact, you've made me think back. In about 1975 I got Striker for Christmas and Dad insisted that one of the players was named 'Mitchell'. I still remember what that player looked like .
I voted for the wife-beater, simply because I thought it would be funny if such a **** of a man came top. He's not even the best and I don't even like him.
Such a charming contribution - says more about WhiteRose himself than anything else could - shame SLB the poll could not be restricted to Hornets
Obviously a tad bored with his own people! but Leo no need to be nasty, remember hearts and minds, given time it works!
I can't remove such an offering, no, however... . I did read another board's WUM had been edited by the moderator where they made a complete monkey out of the WUM, very funny, sorry, can't remember the board or convo.
Well I could mod him but prefer not to - we are able here to have "no swearing" for those who want that - I personally see no need for extreme swearing as part of ordinary conversation but will only mod if there are a few people upset by a post. So far I have modded only one post - by a Cardiff supporter - who then went on to become quite a good contributor here - and made a "friendly" request to Northolt to observe the wishes of a group of our posters. Not bad really when you consider we have over 7,000 posts and the Beeb would have modded hundreds - shows what a great bunch of people post on here
Tigers ok in small doses , no need to mod or ignore him ! He does contribute some lovely sarcastic stuff
